Obituary

Hyacinth Marlene Darien, born on June 12, 1947, in Santa Cruz, St. Elizabeth, passed away on August 12, 2024, at the age of 77. A beacon of kindness and grace, Hyacinth touched the hearts of all who knew her with her generosity, elegance, and unwavering dedication to her family and community.

Hyacinth shared a beautiful life with her beloved husband, Eric Martin, who affectionately called her “Mar”. Eric and Marlene raised four girls, Donna, Andrea, Rachelle and Sherill, each of whom carry the values and warmth instilled by their mother. As we remember Hyacinth, let us celebrate a life lived with purpose, style, and a heart full of compassion. May her memory be a source of inspiration and comfort to all who knew her.

Mar my dear sister and friend.

From the time 5 single girls; known as the girks at 90, moved to Harbour View, the Darien Family became our family and our family theirs..
Those were wonderful years for me and when I got married and moved away we kept in touch from time to time snd until this day the love for the family has never diminished.

Mar, Maria was such a beautiful woman, inside and outside and my heart is in pain at her passing.

The resurrect hope is a wonderful provision from Jehovah and I know that she is alive in Jehovah's memory so with confidence, I can say: LONG LIVE MAR, MARiA!
Soon we will all shout: LIFE WITHOUT END! ;AT LAST!!

Mrs Darien passing has caused me to be reflective, sad and also brings a smile to my heart.
We met at work, she was a joy to work with, I remember teasing her all the time and she would be laughing. I have missed her. Rest well Ms. D.

Sister Darien is a dear sister to me. She was kind, mild, humble and loving. She was the person who studied with me and I can vividly remember those studied that often times lead to many long conversations and tears for different reasons. I could pour out my heart to her which I did on many occasions. She will be miss by many including myself.

Mar-mar, Marlenea my pet names for my dear friend, so caring, giving, spiritual loving and kind. She made the best peas soup, the sweetest ackee and satfish. I truly miss her, we had such good times working together as auxiliary pioneers, field service at the corner many Friday evenings . I am comforted knowing that very soon she will hear Jesus voice and be back radiant and happy.

My beloved Marlene, was instrumental in studying the Bible, helping me to Love Jehovah God and, get baptised. Marlene's warmth, patience, kindness, gentle spirit, coupled with her beautiful smile touched my heart.
Marlene was devoted to her family; but above all, she Loved Jehovah God, and showed his Love Preaching, Teaching others to draw close to him.
I await the future resurrection to see her beautiful face, and the joy of embracing her forever in Paradise.. John 5:28,29

My condolences to the Darien family. I've known sis Darien for the past 10yrs. I was her hairdresser, while doing her hair she always encouraged me to come to the meetings....her words were, " tell the clients u won't be in until certain time, so u can get the time to attend the meeting. She was really a sweet woman, loved her so much. Will be greatly missed....SIP sis M.D.

Mar's outstanding Christian attributes were exemplary, and her countless kind deeds toward me from I started studying the Bible will not be forgotten; attending group book studies in her home until I last spent time with her, as well as her and Martin's contributions to my becoming a dedicated servant of Jehovah, are memories I will hold dear for the rest of my life. Now, more than ever, I await the Resurrection with eager anticipation of seeing Mar and Martin again in the New World to come.

My husband Clive and Martin worked together for over 30 years in the Sound Dept. at Assemblies and Conventions and as a result I met Martin and was often the recipient of both him and Clive's sense of humor. It was quite a while after meeting Martin that I got to know Mar. I actually would see her at the Assemblies and Conventions and being kinda shy back then I was hesitant to meet her. When I eventually met her, it was as if I had met and chatted with her for years. Her grace, warmth, generosity, not to mention her kindness really stood out. She also had a sense of humor which I found out when she willingly offered to take me to and back from work for quite a few months. There is so much more I could say about her. Clive and I wish to offer our condolences to the entire family and we are really looking forward to continue our association with both Martin and Mar in Paradise.
