As-Salaam Alaikum , Peace
First I thank Allah for allowing me to be birthed by such a magnificent woman, my beautiful mother inside and out. I thank her & my dad Jerome Redd) for giving me such a fun childhood. My mom once told me that when she had me, she was really ready to be a mom, and it showed. I thank my mom for how protective she was over me throughout my life but especially as a child. She valued me.

I thank Allah [God] for the honor and opportunity to take care of my mother in the last months of her life. It was the hardest trial and the BEST honor for me of my life.

I thank Allah [God] for all the years he allowed me to spend with my mother, all the conversations, laughs, lessons, and guidance she gave me over the 50+ years of my life. Some don't get that opportunity & I thank Allah [God] for the many many years I have been able to just pick up the phone and call my mom, stop by her home to cook & eat a meal with her, to buy her flowers and gifts of gratitude & to take walks with her, to sit in silence and enjoy a good movie with her, & enjoy the many family gatherings throughout the years with her.

I thank Allah [God] for the excellent example she showed me of being a mother, daughter, sister, wife, daughter in love, auntie, co-worker, & friend.

I thank Allah [God] for my mothers strict upraising of me and her heavy emphasis on education and good work ethics.

I thank Allah [God] for my mothers generous heart and teaching me the importance of giving charity and being a charitable person in life with not just my resources but also my time and skill sets to help others and give back to the community.

I thank Allah [God] for my mother teaching me the importance of being courageous, & stepping out on faith to do or learn something new. She was the main supporter encouraging me to start my own business, the art gallery I owned in Detroit called "Redd Apple Gallery", from publishing my first book "Relationship Talks" of which she was one of the editors with her favorite "red pen".

I thank Allah [God] for having a mother who taught me "self-love", not to tolerate mistreatment or to accept wooden nickels from anyone. She taught me that if I must die, die standing, not on my knees, to be able to take care of myself and to be self sufficient and to take responsibility of my actions, to think things through and stand strong not weak. She taught me to love myself, my Black skin, my Black features, and our Black culture. She taught me to be proud to be a Black woman and to be invested in my own community.

I thank Allah [God] for my mother teaching me to be loving, family oriented, and to LOVE God! She taught me the importance of valuing friendship. She taught me the importance of loving your in laws.

I thank Allah [God] for my mom teaching me to love physical fitness & to stay in shape. Many times my mom volunteered to be my caddy when playing golf. She didn't want to play but enjoyed walking the golf course with me. I thank her for teaching me tennis & bowling of which she would beat me every time, LOL.

I thank Allah [God] for a mother who taught me to love work, working and learning. I thank Allah for allowing me to be my moms tech support with her phone and new apps she was interest in, LOL.

I thank Allah [God] for my mother teaching me to enjoy life outside of work through travel, fine dining, and enjoying the arts.

I thank Allah [God] for giving me a mother that accepted my faith, Islam and me as a muslim woman with NO BIGOTRY in her heart. She visited a mosque with me, and allowed me to read the Holy Quran to her during this past Ramadan. What a blessing. Praise God!

I thank Allah [God] for giving me a praying mother who believed in 1 God and said the blessing over each meal.

I thank Allah [God] for giving me a mother who loved to cook and prepare meals at home. I loved cooking with my mom.

I thank Allah [God] for a mother who had a great sense of humor and was light hearted. She taught me the importance of laugher and enjoying life.

I thank Allah [God] for my mother teaching me the importance of loving TRUTH, FAIRNESS, JUSTICE, and EQUALITY. I thank my mother for teaching me the importance of keeping my promises & my word. I thank Allah for giving me an affectionate mother, who called me often just to see if I was ok, always hugged & kissed my cheeks, and always told me how much she loved me & how proud she was of me. She never withheld affection towards me.

I thank Allah[God] for my mother entrusting me as her Power of Attorney and handling all her affairs towards the end of her life.

I thank Allah [God] for allowing me to have one last dance with my mother [see the picture below]. My mother called me "her girl". We both would light up every time we saw one another.

I thank Allah [God] for a mother who was very accepting & understanding of my career moves & living in various states over the years. She even allowed me to go to college out of state, Spelman College, Atlanta, GA. I remember when she dropped me off to college, we both cried our good-byes.

I thank Allah [God] for giving me the resources to help my mother during times of need. She briefly came to live with me while she was waiting to close on a new home, it was one of my favorite memories, even though she did not like living in a high rise apartment the Lafyette Towers in downtown Detroit, MI.

I thank Allah [God] for my mom teaching me that if we ever had a disagreement or hurt each others feelings, it is ok & important to acknowledge the other persons feelings, apologize and move forward with love. She taught me the importance to continue to keep striving to improve by acknowledging we will make mistakes, but we must learn from the error, grow and do better. She taught me that if you fall, get back up! She taught me humility.

I thank Allah [God] for allowing me to tell my mother how much I love her, how thankful I am to God for her as my mother and what a great job she did as a mother to me, kissing and hugging her while she took her last breath & made her transition back to Allah [God]. I thank Allah [God] for putting the thought in my mind to have family members tell her how much they love and appreciate her as well via modern technology several times.

I thank Allah for allowing me to wash and pray over my moms body after her passing and giving me the strength to implement all her wishes and instructions as she so meticulously noted in her Last Will Testament.

To all who read this, be blessed.
I became acquainted with Helen during 1998 while working at the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice. Needless to say, working in a criminal court environment was challenging, but Helen added much to our days with her laughter and "let's get this docket done attitude." We all appreciated her persona and I was saddened to hear of her transitioning. I know she is bringing joy to the angels and laughter too. God bless her memory. I have several and I'm smiling. 😃

As-Salaam Alaikum (Peace Be Unto You). I would like to extend my deepest and sincerest condolences to Sister Katrina and the family of Sister Helen. Although, I didn't know your mother personally, I desired to help with her journey to Chicago in her last days. However Allah (God) saw fit to bring her to Himself before the transition could take place. The wonderful show of love through the pictures and videos demonstrate the full life it appears that Sister Helen lived. She loved and was loved! She would be so proud of the great effort that you have put forth Sister Katrina, to acquaint the world with her beauty, "inside and out" as you have shared. May Allah be pleased with her and may her rewards be passed on to you and your family, and all those who were near and dear to her heart

Peace, blessings and much love,
Sister Patrice and family🤲🏽🩷

Greetings in Peace to All… I had written a lengthy tribute to be placed here, but after prayerful consideration for brevity as an indicator of respect, I edited it to what follows.

Mrs. Jackson was the Honored Mother of a dear friend, colleague and good Muslim Sister to our family. As such, although I never knew her, I could see by the fine example of Sis. Katrina what an excellent “tree” had borne that wonderful “apple” that we call Friend.

May Allah (God) comfort and console your family during this difficult time of bereavement, and fill your hearts with His presence and Strength. Seek refuge in Him, for He has promised to wipe away all our tears, and verily… He never breaketh His promise.

Allah loves you — and so do we. Long live the spirit of Sister Helen Jackson. Ameen

I’ve been trying to pull my thoughts together since the original post that announced her passing. Because of the age gap, I really don’t have any personal memories or instances that I can speak about other than how warm and beautiful her smile was. You can rest in the fact that every single time you smile at yourself in the mirror… you will see her smiling back at you because you were blessed with her warm and beautiful smiling face!

You, my sweet Katrina, are SO SO very strong and that strength comes from your Mommy! All of the prayers from those that love you, will continue to see you through these difficult days. I love you and you’ll always and forever be my “little Girl” ❤️

Helen’s vibrant spirit touched the lives of all who knew her and will be truly missed! As my mom’s best friend, Helen was a constant source of laughter, compassion, and joy for my mother. The Bible speaks on how a true friend gives heartfelt counsel that brings joy to the heart and I could never thank Helen enough for being a true friend to my mother. Her infectious humor could light up any room and she could do it without speaking...all she would do is roll her eyes! Helen was lively, funny and a great dancer!! Even as she faced her greatest challenge, she fought with incredible strength and courage, inspiring those of us around her with her resilience. Her daughter Katrina's devotion was a testament to the love Helen had cultivated throughout her life, providing unwavering support and care until the very end. Helen truly was a blessing to this earth, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Rest in Heaven Helen! Love Always,

I first met Ms. Jackson at Newland medical she was a feisty one but we hit it off right away. She was always making it a point to speak to me and tell me stories of her life and I would make time to listen. One day I saw her at the casino and we sat down and played the slot machines together and we both won. So when ever I saw her come into the office we would laugh about our encounter. She was my girl and I am so so sorry for your loss. I know the heavens will be a better place with Ms. Jackson there.

Our journey together began over 65 years ago when we were just ten years old, attending Winterhalter Elementary School. Living just a block apart, we spent countless hours playing softball in a vacant lot and basketball in the alley, forming the foundation of a lifelong friendship.
As we moved on to Tappen Junior High School, our bond deepened. Walking to and from school together, we shared our dreams, fears, and the challenges of early teenage life. Helen was my confidante, my support, and the start of my "girl circle," providing the comfort and understanding that only a true friend can offer.
High school brought new adventures and memories. Helen was a dedicated and focused student, always willing to lend a helping hand. Her talents were recognized by her bookkeeping teacher, who offered her a summer job—a testament to her skills and character. We shared classes and dreams of similar career paths, always supporting each other along the way.
Even after I moved out of state, our friendship never wavered. Every visit back to Detroit was an opportunity to reconnect, to share stories of our careers, love lives, and the joys and challenges of raising our children. Helen's love for fishing and her delicious fried fish became a cherished tradition, as we spent late nights talking and laughing, strengthening our sisterhood.
Helen's spirit and kindness have left an indelible mark on my life.

What an awesome blessing Allah gave you and your mother - the gift and blessing of each other. All of the love, lessons, laughter and dances between a mother and her daughter made you into the woman you are today.

I thank Allah [God] for your mother because I have the pleasure of knowing you and your beautiful spirit.

May Allah be well pleased with your mother and comfort you during this time. May Allah always bless you.

Helen and I met at the age of 10 and who would have guessed that we would be best friends for life and born only a few days apart! We attended Winterhalter Elementary, Tappan Junior High and Mackenzie High Schools together. We were so close that after graduating high school, we decided to get our first apartments right across the street from each other! We even saved up for our 25th birthdays to throw a huge birthday party together! In our retirement days, we spent our time talking on the phone, going to breakfast (where Helen had to have her hash browns golden brown on both sides and if they weren’t right they were going right back to the kitchen), dancing and playing pokeno.
Helen blessed me with the gift of being her daughter Katrina’s god mother and I am so grateful to her for that! Katrina’s deep love for her mother showed through each day as she fought to make sure Helen’s last days were filled with love and the best care possible - I’m thankful to have been there to help and love on Helen! Helen was God fearing, caring, strong, loyal, honest and loved her family and friends tremendously.
Proverbs 17:17 says that a real friend “loves at all times”. With that said, my dearest Helen - I want to thank you for loving me at all times and being the best friend anyone could ask for. I only pray that you felt the same love from me that you provided to me. Rest well my friend! I love you and you will always live on deep in my heart.

Love Always,
Myra

As Salaam Alaikum. (Peace be unto you.)
Love and life are truly the same words with interchangeable letters. When you have love, you have life and when you have life, you have love, I once heard Min Louis Farrakhan say.

The two feed off of one another and are critical to our existence and our reality.

They make us who we are and shape our worlds. But Allah blesses us with one incredibly beautiful and powerful person who gives us both life and love. That incredible person is truly the first manifestation of God, His Beneficence, His Mercy, His Security, and His Comfort: We refer to that Divine Being as Mother.

Before we can say God, Jehovah or Allah, we say “mother.”

Mother pours so much into us that we could never repay her and we could never thank her enough.

What she gives us is eternal because she comes from the Eternal One. So let us be comforted that as mom departs this life, she is always with us. So long as we remember her, act in the ways she taught us, so long as we show the best part of ourselves and so long as we stand on the foundation she gave us, by Allah’s Grace, she is with us. So our mother, Helen Ross Jackson, is with us. She lives and our love for her is proof. May Allah bless and comfort all who knew and were touched by her life—especially her dutiful, beautiful Katrina. You did your duty, you devoted your life to your mom because you loved. She lives.

Salaam! It has been a beautiful thing to witness the sacred relationship you have with your mother. Even before she fell ill, it made me smile every time you shared pictures from your trips home and any special occasion she was a part of. Losing family is like losing a piece of your heart. While we mourn, we can also remember the memories and good times we had with cuz Helen. She loved to dance, play cards, and be around her family. I pray that our family takes this time to lean on one another, and that Helen’s memory forever reminds us of the strength and love that our family was built on. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

I met Helen Ross on the 7th or 8th grade at Tappen Junior High. We became friends instantly. Helen talked to everyone and some how she thought I was one of the smart girls.
At MacKenzie high school; Helen, Margaret Dandridge and I would take off to Inkster to visit with Helen sisters and get me back to school some how for my last class. The 3 of us had a wonderful 12th grade experience.
I move to California and when Helen was in town it was like we just picked
up where we left off.
When I moved back to Michigan, I didn't see as much of Helen but we texted and called. Helen is one of my closest and dearest friend. I will miss you much.

Although I didn’t get the honor of meeting our Beloved Queen Sister Helen Ross Jackson, however I still knew much about her through her beloved, caring and loving daughter Sister Katrina Muhammad. APDTA. I consider it an honor to have been a small part of her ongoing care through prayers and communication with Sis Katrina , for someone so loved and dear to Sister Katrina as her Beloved Mom. To even know of a mother like Sister Helen Ross Jackson, who no doubt poured the kind of love, nourishment and care into her child, that any daughter would wish to have from a mother, is indeed the best blessings from God (Allah) from a mother to a Child.
And to witness the outcome, the result of such a powerful love, coming fully into fruition, back to the mother from her precious daughter during a time she needed her the most is only a testament of the Almighty Creator's signature of what He intends when he gives us our mothers and our children.
Sister Katrina Muhammad, be at peace with yourself Beloved. Your Beloved Mom is at peace with herself, thanks to your care and your heart of pure gold when it comes to loving, caring and making the sacrifices you made to help her in her difficult time. She has left this earth, but not your heart. She is still with you, inside you, and will forever be. And I believe she left in peace, and with a smile in her spirit, thanking Almighty God Allah, for blessing her with a daughter like yourself.
Alhamdulillah! Allah is the Greatest. May He be forever pleased with your beautiful and precious Mom.
Sister Jacquelyn,
Your Sister and friend always.

God bless Helen and the family. Sending my prayers and condolences for the loss of Helen. My favorite memory of Helen is that she has always been very intelligent, a great mother, very supportive of our daughter and one of Katrina's biggest fans. Helen was a great person to me. She was a great partner in raising our daughter.

Helen and I were in agreement to send Katrina to Detroit Country Day School in efforts to give her the best education we could at that time.

We were in agreement to be the aunt and uncle picking up Katrina's cousins and my younger brothers and taking them to the park, movies, amusement parks and spending time with them. We also invested in the family by taking lots of pictures and video of family members and family events from the 70's and 80's. It was important to us to preserve those memories for our daughter and our family members for them to enjoy years to come.

We were in agreement to maintain a strict and safe environment for our only child, our daughter Katrina in that we didn't allow her to spend the night at other people's home. I thank my ex-wife Helen for being a great mother for our daughter.
