We have known each other from time everlasting. You were a friend before life began. We shall know one another again in heaven.
Obituary
Heidi Hellige (née Butler) often understated herself, but those who loved her knew the truth: she was extraordinary in all the ways that matter most. She made people feel welcome, steady, and cared for. Her presence could lift a room, her honesty could set things right, and her laughter made life feel safer and brighter.
As a daughter, sister, friend, wife, mother, and aunt, Heidi was earnest, devoted, and brave. She loved fiercely and worried deeply, especially for the people entrusted to her care. Through her steadfast faith in Christ, her innate sense of what was actually important, and a healthy sense of humor, she met the world with courage, compassion, and grace.
Heidi earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Utah. She then worked as a Registered Nurse, a profession perfectly suited to her sharp instincts, practical wisdom, attention to detail and generous heart. She found deep purpose in caring for others through difficult moments and offering comfort when it was needed most. Those she served were better for having known her.
Outside of work, Heidi loved life in ways both joyful and playful. As a girl, she studied ballet with her mom and sister, Heather, and in recent years she happily returned to it. She loved persuading Chuck into reindeer games and joining her on hikes. Most of all, she loved going home to Utah to be with family and let loose. She also enjoyed the thrill of a good game of Candy Crush.
Born and raised in the Salt Lake Valley, Heidi also made homes in Round Rock, Texas and Parker, Colorado, where she passed away after a heart attack in April 2026.
Heidi is survived by the family she loved most fiercely: her husband of 35 years, Chuck Hellige; her sons, C.J. Hellige and Shaun Hellige (Sophie); and her sisters, Heather Walker (Darren) and Hillary Sorensen (Mike).
A celebration of Heidi’s life will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, in Sundance, Utah, with an open house of food, family, and friends from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. All who wish to gather, remember, and celebrate her life are warmly welcome.
Though her loss is profound, so is the gratitude for having known her. Her love remains in the family she built, the friends she carried, the patients she cared for, and the countless lives made better by her attention, humor, strength, and laughter.
Heidi believed there were far better ways to spend money than on cut flowers. In lieu of bouquets, donations in her memory may be made to Children of Peace International https://childrenofpeace.org or to your local food bank.
