Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Gwendolyn “Gwynn” Feytte Warren Browne
Gwendolyn “Gwynn” Feytte Warren Browne—lovingly known as “Ms. Gwynn”—was born on November 10, 1950, in Texarkana, Arkansas, to Quitman and Dorothy J. Warren. Her family later moved to Los Angeles, California, where she grew up, built her life, and became a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, ministry leader, and servant to her community.
Gwynn shared her childhood with her sister, Phyllis Calloway, and her brother, Quitman Warren Jr. She was naturally quiet and reflective, finding comfort in books and peaceful surroundings. Yet beneath her reserved nature was a curious and adventurous spirit. She welcomed meaningful experiences, remained open to learning, and possessed a quiet courage that allowed her to step beyond what was familiar when life called her to do so.
As a young girl, Gwynn played violin in her middle school orchestra, developing an appreciation for music, discipline, and expression. She also served as a Candy Striper in local hospitals, where her compassion for others began to take visible form. Even then, she had a way of noticing people who were hurting or overlooked. She understood that care could be offered through a kind word, a listening ear, a prayer, or simply the reassurance of being present.
Gwynn attended Gompers Middle School and Fremont High School before earning a degree in Business Administration from California State University, Northridge. Her education strengthened the practical wisdom, organization, and resourcefulness that would later serve her family, ministry, and community.
Her faith grew through her involvement with Friendly Friendship Baptist Church. In 1978, she married Joseph Browne and moved with him to Sunnyvale, California, while he pursued his ministerial degree. When they returned to Los Angeles, they began the work of establishing Faith in Christ Ministries together.
Their marriage was blessed with four children: Clarifoster, Jennifer, Yohanna, and Hilkiah. Gwynn was a devoted wife and mother who supported her husband’s calling while also discovering the purpose God had placed within her. She helped create a home grounded in faith, stability, love, and perseverance. Her children knew her as a steady presence—someone whose strength was not always expressed through many words, but whose love was constant, dependable, and deeply felt.
Gwynn’s family extended beyond her household. She treasured her grandsons, Samuel, Atlas, and Malaki, and delighted in the larger circle of relatives, friends, ministry partners, and community members who became part of her life. She had a gift for making people feel welcomed and remembered. Her care was often expressed in quiet ways: checking in, offering encouragement, making a visit, praying with someone, or noticing a need before it was spoken aloud.
As First Lady and later Director of Faith in Christ Ministries, Gwynn helped shape a ministry devoted to meeting both the spiritual and practical needs of individuals and families throughout Los Angeles. Her life reflected the heart of Isaiah 61—bringing good news to the poor, binding up the brokenhearted, proclaiming freedom to those in captivity, and comforting those who mourn. She did not treat these words as distant ideals. She lived them through compassion, hospitality, prayer, support, and faithful service.
Gwynn found particular joy in children’s ministry and women’s ministry. She understood that children needed more than instruction; they needed patience, affirmation, protection, opportunities, and adults who believed in their future. She also understood that women often needed a safe place to rest, heal, grow, and be accepted without judgment. Through her work, she helped create communities where women could feel seen, supported, and valued. She encouraged them to recognize their worth, strengthen their faith, and embrace the purpose within them.
Gwynn was gentle, gracious, and unassuming. She rarely sought attention and did not need recognition to remain committed to the work before her. Her strength was revealed in her patience, perseverance, prayer, and ability to continue loving people through difficult circumstances. She carried herself with humility, but her presence was never insignificant. People trusted her because she listened carefully, responded thoughtfully, and treated them with dignity.
Although she was naturally reserved, Gwynn became a leader whose influence reached far beyond any title. She led through consistency, compassion, wisdom, and example. She did not need to be the loudest person in the room to make a difference. Her leadership was evident in the way she welcomed others, sought to gain knowledge to address problems, encouraged participation, and remained faithful when the work was demanding.
She also understood that leadership meant making room for others. Gwynn recognized gifts in people and encouraged them to use those gifts. She helped others develop confidence, discover their abilities, and step into opportunities they might not have pursued on their own. Her influence continues through the people she mentored and the leaders she helped prepare.
Her service extended beyond Faith in Christ Ministries. Gwynn supported other ministries and community efforts that cared for children, women, families, and individuals without a safe place to call home. She believed that ministry could not be limited to a building or a scheduled program. It had to reach people where they were—in their homes, hospitals, nursing facilities, neighborhoods, and moments of crisis.
She remained connected to those who were sick, isolated, grieving, or unable to attend church. She did not wait for people to come to her before offering care. She went to them. Her compassion was personal and active, expressed through phone calls, visits, prayer, encouragement, practical assistance, and advocacy. Many of these acts were never publicly acknowledged, but they were remembered by the people whose lives she touched.
To know Ms. Gwynn was to experience a woman who made room for others. She offered a sense of safety, belonging, and hope. People often left her presence feeling lighter—not because she had solved every problem, but because she had reminded them that they did not have to face those problems alone.
On August 8, 2026, Gwynn passed away in Los Angeles, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Quitman and Dorothy J. Warren. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Joseph Browne; her children, Clarifoster J. Browne and his wife, Allison; Jennifer Browne; Yohanna Browne; and Hilkiah Browne and his wife, Katarina; her beloved grandsons, Samuel, Atlas, and Malaki Browne; her sister, Phyllis Calloway; her brother, Quitman Warren III; her nieces and nephews, including Racee, Herchell, Marshall, and Quitley; and a host of extended family members, ministry partners, friends, and community members who loved her and were changed by her life.
Gwynn’s legacy is found not only in the ministry she helped establish or the programs she supported, but in the people who felt cared for because she was there. It lives in her children and grandchildren, in the women she encouraged, in the children she nurtured, in the leaders she developed, and in the families she helped strengthen. It lives in every person who learned from her quiet example that love can be steady, service can be humble, and faith can be made visible through the way we treat one another.
Gwendolyn “Ms. Gwynn” Browne was a woman of grace, compassion, wisdom, and quiet strength. She was deeply loved—not only for what she accomplished, but for who she was: a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, a joyful grandmother, a faithful sister, a trusted friend, and a source of comfort to countless people.
Her passing leaves an immeasurable absence, but her life leaves an enduring gift. The love she gave, the faith she lived, and the hope she offered will continue through the people she touched and the generations that follow.

Though we mourn her passing, we come together with grateful hearts to honor her life, cherish the memories we shared, and celebrate the joy and love she brought into our lives.
Your presence would mean so much to our family during this time of remembrance and reflection. In honor of Gwynn, guests are invited to wear green—a tribute to her life and enduring legacy.
* Overflow seating will be available for guests who are unable to find seats in the sanctuary. Please proceed to the FICM Community Center at 4501 S. Western Ave., where you can watch the service via live stream.
Self-parking is available starting at 10:00 am in the TFLAC Mason's Parking Lot at 1642 W 45th St, Los Angeles, CA 90062. This lot is directly across from FICM. A security guard will be on site during the service to help guests.
