Gregory Richard Raifman

Obituary

Gregory R. Raifman passed away on August 5, 2026, at the age of 67, in Los Angeles, surrounded by his family, after a two-year battle with sinonasal undifferentiated carcinoma (SNUC), a rare and aggressive form of cancer.

Born on July 1, 1959, Gregory grew up in Bethesda-Chevy Chase, Maryland. He went on to attend the University of Michigan, where he earned his A.B. in Economics and History, before receiving his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, with a focus on international law. While at Georgetown, he served as Executive Editor of Law & Policy in International Business and authored an article examining Swiss banking secrecy and insider trading.

Gregory lived a life defined above all by his family. He was a devoted father to his sons, Joshua and Benjamin, and a loving brother to Larry and Alan. He raised his two sons in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he instilled in them the values that guided his own life: working hard, caring for others, and living with purpose. He took tremendous pride in watching them build lives and careers of their own.

Gregory had a distinguished and varied career spanning law, investment banking, technology, media, and entrepreneurship. An industry veteran from the early days of the internet, he had a particular talent for recognizing the potential of emerging technologies and building businesses around them. He founded Mediaplex, one of the early pioneers in digital advertising technology, and went on to serve as CEO and senior executive of several publicly traded technology and media companies, including Rubicon Project and Nexstar Media Group.

Gregory's passion for sports was another defining part of his life. An avid cyclist, tennis player, and golfer, he was a gifted athlete whose competitive spirit extended well beyond his professional life. His love of cycling ultimately became part of his career as Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Momentum Sports Group, which owned and operated the UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team, one of the country's leading professional cycling teams.

Whether in business, athletics, or life, Gregory rarely did anything halfway. He set extraordinarily high standards for himself and brought determination, discipline, and an intense drive to everything he pursued. He believed in striving for excellence rather than settling for mediocrity, a philosophy that shaped both the life he lived and the values he passed on to his sons.

Gregory spent his final years in Park City, Utah. Gregory is survived by his sons, Joshua and Benjamin Raifman; his brothers, Larry and Alan Raifman; and his extended family and many friends. The family gathered privately, as he would have wanted.
