Ladies and gentlemen, today we gather to commemorate the life of Gregor Richard Magson, born on January 8th, 1971, a man whose journey through this world was marked by resilience, humour, and unwavering kindness. Gregor's early years were defined by movement and adaptation. Born in Chester Le Street, Durham, to David and Ann Lesley Magson nee Turpin, his family's journey took them from Scotland where his sisters were born then from the UK to Zambia and back again. Both parents remarried welcoming Elizabeth Magson and Patrick White to the family. The marriages brought new siblings into his life, each adding their own unique thread to the fabric of his existence. In Kitwe, Zambia, Gregor embarked on his educational journey at Lechwe Primary. Despite the challenges of relocation and familial changes, he approached each new chapter with a sense of curiosity and resilience that would come to define him. Returning to the UK, Gregor pursued his education with diligence, eventually earning a BSc (Hons) in Industry & Technology from the University of Halam. His academic pursuits laid the groundwork for a successful career in consulting, taking him to Indonesia and back, where he made lasting contributions to various organizations. Beyond the professional sphere, Gregor's life was enriched by a myriad of passions and interests. From live and online role-playing to a deep love of science fiction, reading and diving, he found solace and joy in pursuits that allowed him to explore the depths of his imagination. He was also a social butterfly and lived the company of others both family and friends. He had a close set of lifelong friends who he spent his free time with or spoke about in their absence. They were always with him in his stories and thoughts. Gregor's time in the territorial army was a testament to his sense of duty and Honor, reflecting his commitment to serving his country and community. His service was marked by a steadfast dedication to old-fashioned values, earning him the respect and admiration of all who knew him. Those who had the privilege of crossing paths with Gregor remember him fondly for his quick wit and infectious sense of humour. He was a gentle soul, known for his kindness and thoughtfulness, qualities that endeared him to all who knew him. Never once did anyone recall him losing his temper, a testament to his unwavering patience and compassion. In addition to his many talents and virtues, Gregor was also known for his love of live music, often joining in with the band to share in the joy of performance. Today, as we bid farewell to Gregor, let us remember him not for the earthly accomplishments he achieved, but for the depth of his humanity and the warmth of his spirit. Those who knew Gregor knew he could be found in his local bar with a cider in one hand and a cigarette in the other; he lived the life he chose to live. He left us too soon after a short illness, at only 53, but his memory will endure in the hearts of all who knew him, a reminder of the power of kindness and the enduring legacy of a life well-lived.
