Gillian Lalande

Obituary

It is with great sadness and much love that we say goodbye to our beloved mother, wife, daughter and friend who passed away suddenly on December 26th, at the age of 36 years.

Gillian is lovingly remembered by her soulmate and true love, Marco Lalande, and their six beautiful children, Xander, Julia, Sophia, Kaleb, Savannah and Madeleine. She will forever be missed by her loving mother and best friend, Carmel McCarthy, Uncle Dad, Tim McCarthy (Jeanie) who loved her as his own and her three sister-cousins, Ashley Fleming (Andrew), Genna Hickey (Darrell) and Brittany Penney (Justin), her best friend and soul sister, Tara Rideout, her goddaughter, Charlotte Best, loving friends, Vince and Simone King, Brittany Olson and Sarah Ingram, brothers Ryan and Jonathan English, a long list of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and her amazing coworkers at the Royal Alexandra & Misericordia NICU.

Gillian is predeceased by her father, Frank English, her grandparents, Gladys and Patrick McCarthy, her uncles, Ted McCarthy, Mike McCarthy, Gerald Myles, her aunts, Jackie Maloney, Debbie McCarthy, her special cousin, Colin McCarthy, her nephew, Jacob Clarke and niece, Ella Best.

Gillian was a ray of sunshine and left a mark on anyone who knew her. She never let her heart condition (Long QT Syndrome) hold her back and she lived life to the fullest. Gillian was the youngest person in the world to receive a defibrillator at the age of 6 and defied all odds time and time again. In her short 36 years, Gillian embraced life and loved to be with friends and family, travel any chance she got and loved spending time with her six loving children and made countless memories with the love of her life, Marco. Gillian touched the lives of many through her work as a NICU nurse. She was a professional “baby cuddler” and supported so many families on their NICU journey. Gillian was someone who put others before herself and lit up every room with a smile or a laugh. She will be remembered by all that had the pleasure to know her. Her loss will be felt forever and her legacy will live on in her children.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Tara, Vince, Simone and Jocelyne for their continued support, Gillian’s many doctors and nurses throughout the years, those who donated to the GoFundMe and sent condolences and prayers.

A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, January 3rd, 2025, at Evolve Church, 1851 94St NW, Edmonton.

Legacy donations in name of the deceased can be made directly to the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation.

I remember the day Tara brought Gillian into Pizza Delight. I hired her immediately. Gillian always had a smile and that beautiful red hair always shined. A fantastic employee and friend. You will forever be missed 💔🙏

Gillian was one of the most incredible friends I’ve ever had. Our bond grew even stronger after we were in a serious collision with a semi together and with Vince. I truly believe an angel protected us that day as we all walked away without a scratch. Now, I find comfort in knowing that Gill is with that angel, watching over her loved ones, especially her beautiful children, Marco and Carm. Even though our lives took different paths, we stayed in contact and were always so happy to watch each other live our best lives. Her kindness, humor, and strength will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew her. I will always remember her beautiful smile and her infectious, adorable laugh. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this difficult time.

My Soul Sister, I will spend the rest of my life wondering why. Why we would ever need to live this life without you? We were supposed to be old ladies together. I can’t even begin to fathom living the rest of this life without you. It was fate that made us sisters and I’m beyond grateful for all the memories we created and the time we got to share. “We were girls together,” we experienced all of life’s ups and downs together. From heartbreaks, to new love, from loss, to new life. No amount of time or space could come between the special bond we held. As soon as we were together, everything just fit. We knew that no matter when, no matter what, no matter where, we were there for each other. The sisterhood we created is something I will cherish forever. I’m one of the lucky ones, to have known and felt your love. I just hope that you knew it too. That I reciprocated that same love and that I will spend the rest of my life wondering why.

My best friend Gillian Lalande words can’t explain how much this hurt my heart. She was a dear friend of mine for over 15 years! The godmother of my kids! And like a second mother figure in my life. She was the light in my darkness and was there when I needed her the most. She had such a beautiful heart that she would give anyone the shirt off her back. She was a wonderful mother beautiful wife and amazing daughter. For God sake, she was a nurse helping with the babies in the hospital. She would call me and say I want to save them all and take them home!! It hurts my heart no more mom nights out or mom trips, just seeing the world with you! My other half! My ride or die, Or having our kids grow up with us! I am going to miss hearing your voice and seeing your because face! I will always be there for your kids Gill. You will be missed and never forgotten I promise!! I love you my dear friend for ever and always! 👼💐 I meet you on the other side one day with my momma bear 🫂
