Forever Strong

Obituary

First and foremost a dare devil, risk taker and traveller of the world. A true gentleman who achieved so much from winning on the sports fields in any sport, to head of house, to a law degree to a global career and to being the person everyone wanted around.
He lit up a room with his smile and swagger in the lowest cut baggy jeans to the most tailored suits. Giles’ proudest achievement are his daughters who he called his angels Grace and Amelie. Adored by his dad, mum, sister and countless others. The most loving man you could ever hope to meet.
We already miss your big Giles hugs and will love you forever.

Giles was my rock in my last year at Cheltenham college. We spent hours talking and laughing, just hanging out and having fun as a teenage couple. He was caring and thoughtful and really listened. He had time for everyone. One of the kindest souls I have ever met. Giles you live on in your family and friends’ memories, including mine. These photos remind me of our carefree days xx

Giles was a hero of mine at university. His exploits on the hockey field were nothing short of legendary—his fearless diving tackles so often saving us, lifting us, inspiring us when we were down. But beyond hockey, he was simply someone you wanted to be around.
We hung out, we partied, and I spent countless hours at his flat with Mark, invariably treated to his unbeatable bacon sandwiches.

So many cherished memories come flooding back—long, sunlit summers in the UCL quad, Mark’s wedding, Jim’s stag, rollerblading in Seven Sisters, catching up in Cheltenham. He was effortlessly cool—likely the coolest person I’ve ever known. I wore Carhartt jeans because he did. Despite my rather limited hair, I even used Dax wax because he did. But I drew the line when he dyed his hair bright blonde and spiked it in true Bart Simpson fashion!

Charismatic, charming, and endlessly upbeat, Giles had a rare gift—he made you feel seen. There was no ego, no pretense; he was always more interested in how you were doing. Even friends of mine who met him only once or twice decades ago still remember him vividly—a testament to the depth of his spirit.

I regret deeply that I never had the chance to see him again after moving back to the UK recently. But I will always cherish his memory and continue to think of him as someone to emulate. My condolences to his family and all that knew him.

So many people are going to miss you Giles. I’ve not seen you for the last 15 years since I’ve been living in America but I remember you so well and Mark always kept me updated on how you were doing. I have so many special memories of you - meeting you when visiting Mark at Uni, partying and having fun in London in our 20s, and then doing the same in Cheltenham. Thank you for coming to America for my (first) wedding, and for being part of the infamous stag do in Bratislava! You had so much charisma and I will never forget your smile and how you lit up the room with positive energy. You were a kind and gentle soul. Rest in peace my friend.

Giles, you were a great flat mate, excellent hockey player - such a competitor, the kind of guy everyone wanted on their team, true friend - so loyal and kind and so much fun! It is really sad not to have you in the world any more, but I hope you are at peace.

Giles, you are really missed by your family and have left a massive gap in our lives. You have been a great brother in-law and brother to Claire and I. We were able to host you in New Zealand a number of times and these were special times and bonded our friendship. Sofia and Archie truly admired you and are grateful that they spent time with you. I will miss our debates on who is the best rugby team in the world but normally you would say the All Blacks. Your talent, smile and love for your family was clear to see and Claire always looked up to you as her amazing big brother. We will ensure that your beautiful daughters are looked after and loved.

It was a real pleasure knowing you through Mark; smart, compassionate, with a big smile always on your face, and not to mention that great sense of humour, you’ll be deeply missed buddy. Your legacy and the memories we all share of you will live forever and ever. I have 3 fond memories over the years, travelling around Canada/USA for Jim’s wedding a few years back, being your mischievous ‘roomie’ at Tessa’s 40th in on Herm island and you introducing me to the wicked game ‘Cards against Humanity’. And more recently your thoughtful side, kindly texting me sympathies and condolences about my late sister and congratulating me on having a son. What a legend, I will miss you my man. Take care and see you on the other side, and big love to all your family in these v hard times Xx

Giles was a joy to behold, the kindest soul who always lit up the room; we last spoke around a month before he passed, I’m gutted we didn’t get to meet up as he was always such a lovely person to be around. Be happy, Giles, a truly free spirit now ❤️ pics from many moons ago when we were young and carefree xx

Where do I start? Best friends, best men, entwined in each others lives from the day we met. So many memories and fun times together. You were like a brother to me. We never ever fell out - we just got each other like no one else and I feel lucky to call you my best friend.

I’m gonna miss you every day bro. You were a special guy - you brought fun, laughter, strength and a certain X factor to whatever situation you were in. A legend on the hockey field (actually, any field), smart, quick-witted - you were loved and liked where ever you went.

I loved your affection, your warmth and your love for your family and for your precious girls. I’m gonna miss our chats, your enthusiasm, your positivity, our hugs, your cooking and your sense of adventure, which took us on so many journeys together.

We’ll see each other again on the other side my man for more bestie fun. I'll hold on to that and remain Forever Strong.

Xx

Highly able and confident, yet never boastful, Giles was a well-grounded, fun and cheerful chap to have around in those Cheltenham College days. These attributes of his meant that Giles was universally liked and respected, and for good reason. May his example from back then when I had the good fortune to know him always live on.

I have the best memories of living in battledown with Giles and Claire, lots of long summers riding our bikes around the estate. We just had so much fun, Birthe always welcoming me into her home and making the most incredible snacks for us all (strawberries dipped in chocolate). Giles was always just the nicest guy and the best big brother to Claire. He had the loveliest smile and such an infectious laugh. I count myself very lucky to have known such a wonderful human being xx

Your energy lit up the room. You were always kind, thoughtful and generous with your time and love. You have been a constant presence in my life - College, UCL, Cheltenham… at my 18th, my 21st, best man at my wedding, godfather to my first born, my 40th … I will miss you. A wonderful force of nature. X

Here you are, best man at our wedding - looking dapper, as always. Standing by Mark’s side. As always, whether physically or metaphorically. So ingrained in our family and lives; part of our furniture. We will never stop missing and loving you. Your gorgeous girls are testament to what a wonderful person you were. Xxxx PS We will miss your low slung jeans and exposed boxer pants look the most ❤️❤️
