Obituary

GGerald H. Forsythe, 64, passed away on April 14, 2025, Owego, New York.

Born on April 17, 1960, Gerald was a lifelong resident of the region. He graduated from Spencer VanEtten and went on to work at Stakmore in Owego and Double Aught Lumber in Candor, where he dedicated many years of service.

Gerald found joy in simple pleasures—he enjoyed spending time outdoors doing yard work, relaxing with classic television shows, and listening to music. These quiet pastimes brought him comfort and reflected his appreciation for life’s everyday moments.

He is remembered by his daughter, Katie (Shawn) Leary, and his son, Gerald (Amanda) Forsythe II. He also leaves behind five grandchildren. Gerald is survived by his siblings: Nelson (Wendy) Forsythe, David (Cathy) Forsyth, and Shirley (Art) Gunn.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Donald Parks, Lloyd Forsythe, and Chuck Parks; and sisters Kathy Callahan and Nancy Ennis.

In accordance with Gerald’s wishes, no services will be held.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.

I had just talked to Jerry a few days before he passed. He had just finally told me about hid diagnosis. He had a positive outlook, but his tone in his voice spoke otherwise. Im in NC but came up every summer n made time to visit Jerry. I miss our phone conversations.

Gerry,
I am so sorry your life was empty without your grandchildren in your life. They will never know the spunk and energy you had. They will never be able to see or be told who you were inside, a patient, funny yet hard working guy. I am grateful I got to know you and was given your gift before you passed. I will cherish it always.

Gerry and I graduated from Spencer Van Etten together. He was a talker and loved his music. He worked so hard everyday to care for his family and he loved them. I was blessed to be able to see him before his passing. I will miss him and am very grateful to have known him .
