Obituary

Gary Carl Minehardt, 86, of Lexington, South Carolina, went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 30, 2025.

Born February 17, 1938, in Schenectady, New York, to Elwood and Beatrice Minehardt. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Glenda Minehardt, with whom he shared 67 years of marriage, and a proud father to his daughters, Tammy Meyer (Chris) and Cindy Brown. Gary’s family extended to his cherished granddaughter Lauren Maloy (Sam), grandson Ethan Brown (Jessica), and great-granddaughters Charlotte, Adeline, Annie, and Josie. He is also survived by his beloved brother, Paul Minehardt (Carol).

Gary served in the U.S. Air Force with dignity and honor for 20 years, a chapter of his life that laid the foundation for his enduring commitment to service. Following his military service, he built a meaningful second career in information technology at Hampton City Schools in Virginia.

For 50 years, Gary and Glenda made Hampton/Yorktown, Virginia their home. In 2018, they embarked on a new journey in South Carolina to enjoy precious years with their great-granddaughters.

Gary found joy in life's simple pleasures - days at the beach, capturing moments through photography, creating in his woodshop, and exploring the world of computers. These hobbies became ways to connect with family and create lasting memories together.

Known for his heart of service, Gary dedicated his life to serving his family, friends, church, and country. A devoted servant of Christ, he was an example of humility and generosity to all who knew him. Even in his final days at Oakleaf Village Memory Care in Lexington, Gary kept his trademark sense of humor, brightening the days of those around him with his jokes and lighthearted spirit.

Though Gary will be greatly missed, his legacy endures in the many lives he impacted with his kindness, wisdom, and gentle humor. His memory will forever be held dear by his family and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

A celebration of Gary's life will be held on February 17th in the Chapel at Lexington Baptist Church, 308 E Main St, Lexington, SC 29072. The family will receive visitors at 10:30 am; service begins at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to your favorite charity or cause. Please take a moment to share a memory, photo, or kind thought with Gary’s family.

Wonderful service today to celebrate the life of a wonderful human being! It was a real joy & honor to have Gary & Glenda in our "Classics" Sunday School Class these past several years. It was always a delight to have these "kids" participate in our bible studies and social events. Gary had amazing insight into God's Word and showed that with his questions, comments and prayers!! It was a real privilege to have known such a great person!! John & Paula Jacobs

Gary's most endearing quality was his dedication to his wife, family and his community. He was always willing to help other people with a kind word and a ready hand. It was a shame that my wife and I lived so far away. I would have enjoyed spending more time with him. He will always be tops in my book because he was so fond of Bodie. And Bodie told me he liked him too. Godspeed, farewell and I will see you next time around. Forever in my memory!!! God bless as I am sure he will.

Glenda and family,
Jerry and I have fond memories of being in the same Sunday school class, traveling to Pennsylvania to sight and sound, going out to dinner or lunch and the many Sunday school Christmas parties at your club house. It was always nice to be in the company of such a wonderful Christian couple. Gary will certainly be missed.
Glenda may God give you His peace that surpasses all understanding at this time.

I lived in the same condos that Gary and Glenda did in Virginia. He and I both did a lot of work for the condo association, but Gary was always willing to do anything to fix anything or to help anybody. I remember he went down somebody's chimney to help rescue her cat.... unbeknownst to Glenda at the time. Just a wonderful person. I treasure both Gary and Glenda's friendship.
