I'm so sorry to hear this news. As a child who grew up in the Thomas household, I remember Fred fondly. I remember him playing the piano, and swimming in the pond. Many a trip taken to the cottage or Murdoc. I am glad I got the chance to know Fred. My thoughts are with Dana, Meghan and Nancy at this time. ❤️

I am sorry to hear this sad news.. I remember how much fun mom and dad (Edith & Fraser) had with you, either around the pool on a hot summer's day, or enjoying a fabulous "drinks and dinner" at your house. Always lots of laughter... Fred was always so welcoming.. He will be missed by many ...my sincere condolences to you all.

My sincerest condolences. Mr Thomas was one of those unforgettable teachers that I had the pleasure of for many years at Central Public. His ivory key playing was one of the fun times and made many boring school days, enjoyable. My utmost respect for him and one that when I saw in the street, walking on Bedford street, always resulted with his infectious smile and a hello.
May you find comfort with your memories and know that, he left a positive influence in my life. RIP Mr Thomas, you will be missed

I am saddened to hear of Mr. Thomas' passing. He was an engaging and friendly teacher and presence in the community. It will be impossible to forget his trademark smile, his soft-spoken voice, and the unmistakable gait that could be seen when he took his walks through downtown Port Hope and the neighbour, often with a signature wide brimmed hat. Mr. Thomas left a lasting impression on myself and many other students with his calm and patient approach to teaching, especially imparting an appreciation for the French language. His reward question, when you got something right, will live on for some time, "bon bon, arachides, ou demi-demi?"
Farewell, Mr. Thomas. My deepest sympathies to your friends and family.

My Uncle Fred was 'one-of-a-kind' person with his infectious smile and tender heart. We have kept in touch over the years and he was always eager for a new family photo or news or just to chat. I was always in awe of all his talents as a teacher and musician. A funny memory I have was ... when me and my twin brother (Danny) were in his bedroom at the farmhouse and we were clowning around jumping on the bed and he said ... "I need you guys to leave the room so I can pack and get ready for my WEDDING DAY!" Mark & I and family will fondly remember Uncle Fred and hold him dear to our hearts.

Monsieur Thomas was always so sweet and kind when he taught me French at Central Public School. When you got something right, the choice of peanuts or jujubes was always the biggest challenge! Seeing him on his walks throughout Port Hope was always met with a smile. My condolences to his family and friends, and may you find peace and comfort in your memories.

I remember him teaching us French. There was always a reward for a right answer. The question was… Des arachides ou des bonbons? One of my favourite teachers. He was a very kind, generous and patient man with us all. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Mr Thomas was one of my all time favourite teachers. He was so kind, caring, funny, and also a little spicy. I really respected and admired his approach to interacting with kids. He was very relatable and made school fun and interesting. My friends and I often look back and share memories of how awesome Mr Thomas was as a human and teacher. He was energetic, passionate, encouraging and helped kids to know and embrace their skills and gifts. He was also surprisingly strong! I remember there being a set of gymnastic style rings at Central that he could easily lift himself up on and do backflip dismounts. Sorry to hear about his sudden passing. I’m honoured and thankful to have known him, even for a short period of time in my life. He made a positive and lasting impression on so many of us!!

I was very saddened to hear of Fred’s passing. I have many fond memories of teaching with Fred at Central Public School in Port Hope. He was a delight to work with and was always ready to share his many musical talents. His expertise at the piano was evident when he accompanied our school choirs. I always had the greatest respect for Fred as a colleague, a friend, and a musician!

We are so sorry to hear this very sad news.
I was chuffed to see some photos of Fred with my parents. Fred & Nancy welcomed my parents to their Port Hope neighbourhood and even after my dad passed, they continued a long lasting friendship to this day.

So very sorry to hear of Fred’s passing. I will always remember when Nancy and Fred took Brenda D and I to the CNE as a thank you treat for helping in Nancys classroom. Over 50 years ago. Deepest condolences.
