Obituary
Frederick (Fred) Mansfield Showers, 88, passed away peacefully at his home in Mount Pleasant, SC on the morning of July 23, 2026.
When Fred smiled his eyes twinkled and lit up the room. He was both reclusive & the life of the party, gruff & gentle– above all, he was kind.

Fred was predeceased by his parents, H. Mansfield Showers and Annabeth Voss Showers of Tannersville NY, and his siblings CDR Michael J. Showers & Barbara Browne.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Kathryn Guldi Showers, & two children, Jeff Showers & Arden Showers– as well as siblings Elizabeth (Betz) Mann; Arthur V. Showers (with wife, Barbara); & Ralph V. Showers; and several nieces & nephews.

* In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations (link forthcoming) toward the time-sensitive restoration of the historic 19th C. St. Francis de Sales Church, at the site of Fred's final resting place. A dedicated Preservation & Family Heritage fund will be established in Fred’s name for the ongoing preservation of this historic German-Catskill structure-- designed & built by Fred’s grandfather, Arthur Showers-- & an associated family heritage memorial.*

In later years Fred expressed the desire to write down his adventures, but as he aged his memory, hearing, & ability to articulate made it increasingly difficult to gather any of his many animated stories, memories, or personal history directly: in lieu of exit interviews direct from the source we are making a point to collect & archive tales & impressions of Fred from everyone who has them (for his legacy, our family, & future generations).
We very much appreciate any and all contributions. Longer form personal written, voice, or video storytelling is encouraged on an on-gong basis, & all contributions will be collected & archived unless otherwise requested. -- (Please contact Arden for more information, assistance, or contributions to this legacy archive that you prefer are not posted publicly on this site, or shared only with family.)

Heritage Fund
This historic 19th C. Catskill Mnt., Black Forest Architecture, at the beautiful site of Fred's final resting place, designed & built by his grandfather Arthur J. Showers, is in time-sensitive need of immediate restoration repairs to ensure its ongoing preservation.
(The building, which will be present at Fred's fall interment, is currently closed for use due to a leak in the roof actively threatening the hand-built/carved wooden interior).
