Obituary
Fred Marshall, Jr. was born on June 10, 1944 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to the union of Hannah Marshall (Jackson) and Fred Marshall (Sr). Fred was raised by his paternal Grandmother, Lula Marshall, and credited her for the morals and discipline he gained as a child, that would go on to shape the man we all knew and loved. Ms. Lula was a praying woman of Faith, and Fred accepted Christ at an early age.
Fred entered the Army at 17 years old and served in the Army Reserves until he was 25 years old. Fred moved to Detroit, Michigan with his dear friend Emile (whom preceded him in death) in his late twenties to pursue career opportunities. He eventually joined the SMART Bus company as a Connector Operator, providing transportation services to our most vulnerable population. He enjoyed greeting people with a smile and conversing with passengers. Fred went on to work for SMART for over 20 years, and served as Union Steward. He retired from SMART in 2003.
Affectionally known as “Daddy Doe” or “Freddie”, he had a way of lighting up every room he entered with his smile, charisma, and personable nature.
Freddie loved to dress, and Freddie loved to dance. In his spare time, he enjoyed going fishing, spending time with his family, caring for and teaching his grandchildren, and being in the company and community of his friends. He loved to play spades and dominoes, and he loved to watch sports on television. He also loved playing the lottery, and was the go to person for many to get the correct numbers to correspond to the latest life events.
Most of all, he loved to love on people - all people. he enjoyed being an active father an active grandfather, and his teachings and guidance will leave a legacy for generations to come.
Daddy Doe lived life on his own terms and believed in loving all people, putting good into the world, and trusting God in all things. He made his transition peacefully three months after his 80th birthday celebration where friends and family traveled from near and far to celebrate his four scores (80 years) on this earth. What a joyous occasion it was!
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Hannah Jackson and Fred Marshall (Sr.); his father-in-law, Willie Castelow; his sister-in-law James Elizabeth Starks; his grandson, Brandon Collins; and his son-in-law, Ralph Richardson.
He leaves to cherish his memory and honor his legacy his wife and life partner of over 40 years, Sindy Marshall; six daughters - Adrienne Richardson, Alesha Norman (Kenny), Angela Ruffin, Kiliea Marshall, Shelia Marshall-Curtis (Kenyon), and Shantell Marshall; Grandchildren- Tameka, Derenzy, Nolan, Isis, Brianiesha, Chelsey, Alexis, Tyrie, Brittany, Trinity, Angel, Marrell, Mariah, Morgan, Madison, Will, and Markeith; his mother-in-law Willie Lou Starks; his brothers-in-law, Rickey Starks & Terrance Starks; 25 great grandchildren, 4 bonus grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.
Fred brought so much joy and happiness into the lives of all who knew him, and he left his mark on nearly every person he encountered. He may have left this earth, but his love, light and legacy will live on in the lives and hearts of many. His soul lives on in eternity with his Heavenly Father.
