Obituary

Florence Oyebola Yejide Asaju was an extraordinary woman whose life embodied the essence of grace, resilience, and boundless compassion. With unwavering dedication, she poured herself into the service of others—touching countless lives with her kindness, wisdom, and deep commitment to humanity.

Early Life & Education
Florence was born on the 26th of February, 1956, into the family of Chief Paul Oyebukola Oyetunji and Deborah Adeduntan Oyetunji of Ile Jagun Olukuewu, Ogbomoso. She began her education at St. Michael's Anglican Primary School, Offa, before transferring to St. Barnabas Primary School, Sabo Oke, Ilorin. She went on to complete her secondary education at Inisia Grammar School.

Career & Professional Life
After her secondary education, Florence embarked on a career path that reflected both her ambition and her heart for service. She worked at Arewa Textiles in Kaduna and later at OBAT in Mokwa, before answering a deeper calling. She enrolled at the School of Nursing, Bida, where she earned her certificates in General Nursing and Midwifery.
Upon graduation, she was posted by the Niger State Health Authority to Rijau and later Kontagora, where she served her communities with dedication. She subsequently joined the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, where she continued to serve with distinction until her retirement in 2013.
Her love for learning never waned. Driven by an insatiable curiosity, she went on to obtain a Diploma in Law from the University of Ado Ekiti. She was also a seasoned businesswoman who engaged in various ventures throughout her life, demonstrating that her gifts extended far beyond any single calling.

Marriage & Family
In 1983, Florence was joined in holy matrimony to her beloved husband, John Adedayo Asaju. Theirs was a union of love, faith, and partnership that spanned 41 devoted years—until his passing in 2024. Their marriage was blessed with three children, and Florence poured into her family the same boundless love she gave to the world.

Faith & Service
Florence was a woman of deep and abiding faith. Prayer was not merely a practice for her—it was the very foundation of her life. She was ordained a Deaconess at her church, where she faithfully and joyfully served until her passing. She was also an active member of the Bible Society of Nigeria and the Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship.
Her love for children was one of the most defining expressions of her faith. She served as a children's teacher in her church, was a trained member of the Children Evangelism Ministry (CEM), and established a children's Bible club that held weekly meetings every Sunday at her home. She also volunteered as a CRS teacher at a local primary school in her final years—giving, as she always did, until the very end.

A Heart Without Walls
Florence possessed a profound sense of family and community that knew no boundaries. She extended her love and care not only to her husband, children, siblings, and friends, but freely and generously to strangers. Her home was a sanctuary—a place where anyone in need could find shelter, food, clothing, and comfort. Her selflessness created bonds that transcended blood, and her capacity to nurture those around her was a quiet and constant testament to the depth of her character.

Legacy
A giver who never stopped giving, Florence Oyebola Yejide Asaju leaves behind a legacy of love, sacrifice, and wisdom that time will never erase. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, and siblings—each one a living reflection of everything she stood for.

Rest well, Oyebola — the beloved.

April 14, 2026
Mummy, life didn't give us the ending we prayed for—but it placed you in my life, and that alone is a gift I will carry forever. You loved me without being asked to, mothered me without a title, and gave me a love too real to ever be undone. Nothing—not distance, not time, not the way things ended—will ever touch what you mean to me. Not ever.
