The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existence. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery each day. Never lose a holy curiosity." - Albert Einstein
Obituary
Filip Jay Yeskel, beloved father, papa, brother, and partner, passed away on October 18, 2025, at the age of 77.
Fil was born on April 21, 1948, at Beth Israel Hospital in Newark, New Jersey. During his childhood, Fil often visited his family’s bar, Hymie’s Tavern, where he developed his sharp wit, love of conversation, a healthy dose of skepticism, and lifelong appreciation for a good debate. He was the first in his family to attend college, earning his B.S. in Physics from Lafayette College, and later his Masters in Electrical Engineering from the University of Arizona. Fil went on to enjoy a long and accomplished career at IBM as a distinguished IT Architect, where he worked for more than 30 years, holding over 20 technology patents. After retiring, Fil embarked on a new adventure with his partner, Maria Minichiello, owning and operating several coffee shops together, where he joked that he was Head of IT, Chief Marketing Officer, dessert taster, and assistant dishwasher.
Fil loved to read, learn, travel and engage anyone willing to argue a point — whether about politics, philosophy, physics or the best place to get a pastrami sandwich. In recent years, he found great joy in learning Hebrew and studying Torah. He was known for his sense of humor, his intellect, and his love for the singularity theory. He was a tinkerer who believed in the power of duct tape and WD-40, a coder who created his own line of 3d printed bracelets, and an avid learner. During his 15-year journey with cancer, he was supported by countless caring and fantastic medical professionals. He complemented their expertise with his spirit of problem solving and curiosity, which helped his team chart new treatment paths and cultivated hope through challenging times.
Above all, Fil loved his family. His greatest pride and joy were his children and grandchildren, whose accomplishments and laughter filled his life with purpose and happiness. He curated a nomadic lifestyle over the past 10 years of his life in a way that allowed him to be physically close to family and loved ones. His homes spanned the country—from Florida and California to Hawaii and, most recently, Arizona.
He is survived by Maria; his children, Ari (Reut) and their son Nevoh, Zachary (Heather) and their daughters May and Naomi, Sarah (Ryan) and their children Evelyn and Samuel, Sabrina, and Caleb; and his brother, David (Jodi), and their daughter Sasha. Lastly he is remembered fondly by his former wife, Elka, with whom he shared many years and five children.
Fil was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Thelma Yeskel, who worked diligently to provide their sons with the necessary tools for their success.
He will be remembered for his humor, warmth, and fierce love for those closest to him. His family and friends will forever cherish the countless memories he created and the wisdom he shared.

We had the pleasure to be Fil and Maria's neighbor in Florida. Fil engaged with the community in holding philosophical discussion events.
His kindness was shown when he supported one of my music education instrument classroom projects.
He remained solidly aligned to Windows and not IOS! He knew every function of his Tesla E.V. and rode in it utilizing it's automated function!
He exercised regularly with swimming, walking and a triangulated contraption with wheels that was not meant for people who could not walk and chew gum!
One of his many last interests was to get smokin hot with playin his guitar and to have his own personal Robot!
Fil always wants the very best to all especially humanity-
In and with the spirit of Filip Yeskel we say Shalom!
Go explore the wonders-
