When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure.
Obituary
Eula Mae Mack was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother during her incredible 87 years of life. She passed away peacefully in the early hours of Sunday, April 7, 2024. Eula was born on October 8, 1936, to Doshie Long and Lewis Grant in her beloved city of Jackson, North Carolina. She was one of two children: her older sister, Ernestine Beach. After her aunt Lucy came to Philadelphia, Eula, her mother, and her sister closely followed behind to find new opportunities in Philadelphia. Eula was a shy, quiet young woman; however, she loved to attend parties and make lifetime memories with her family and friends. She attended Kensington High School and graduated in 1956.
Eula married Roland Mack in 1962 and soon after, settled in West Philadelphia to start a family. The couple had three sons, Steven W. Mack Sr., Ronnie Mack, and Darren Mack. She became a stay-at-home mom to help raise her rowdy, hard-headed boys whom she showered with unconditional love. The family decided to move to Sharon Hill to live in their new family house and excel in sports at school.
After the boys left the house, she decided to work in housekeeping and enjoy her independence. She retired in 1998 to take care of her mother until her passing in 2001 and then she moved to Mary Fields Apartments in 2004. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren and helped raise them to be kind, loving, gentle people in the community. Her favorite pastimes were enjoying nature, watching her favorite television shows, going to Penn’s Landing to listen to jazz, going to family dinners, and traveling to the south with her cousin Helen. Eula was most proud of her family and their accomplishments and contributions to the black community.
She embodied the best of qualities: kindness, unconditional love, strength of spirit, and an unending generosity that could be seen in her care for her mother, sister, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, entire family, and countless others. She was best known to be “short and sweet” by her eldest son. She belonged to Vine Memorial church and had a close relationship with God. Unfortunately, she became a widow on June 8, 2012, but stayed strong for her three sons and family. Eula accepted everyone with an open heart, open arms, and a perpetual smile. She had an immense passion for her family, ice cream, and basketball. Her favorite basketball players were Dr. J and Stephen Curry.
Her departure comes with great sorrow and a deep wound, and it is gravely felt by her entire family and countless others who loved her deeply in her wide network of community. The family deeply appreciates your support during this difficult time and asks that you share your fondest memories of our beloved Eula on her memorial website.
