I bought my current house in October of 1999 and it’s just a block or 2 from the beach on N. Venice Blvd. One night many, many year’s ago I’d walked up to the corner store (Muni’s at the time) and walking back I ran into a guy, (this turned out to be Eric), and he said that it was his birthday that very day. I said; “wait right here, don’t go anywhere!” and I went to the house and made two cheeseburger’s and grabbed my portable DVD player. I went back to where Eric was (right in the big parking lot between Pacific & Dell, but kind of close to Pacific and N. Venice. There is a short brick wall there and we just ate our cheeseburger’s and watched the beginning of a favorite film of mine; “The Hustler” (1961 B&W) about pool player’s starring Paul Newman and Jackie Gleason. It was really nice and we were friend’s from that moment on. In fact just the year before last I had Eric and another mutual friend, Lee Woodson, over to the house on Eric’s Birthday (Dec. 2024) and I made them cheeseburger’s! (I quit eating meat in 2019), to commemorate that first encounter. I saw Eric all the time over the past 20 plus year’s and it was always a pleasure to talk with him no matter the subject. I was truly shocked to hear of Eric’s passing and could not be more sorry. Yet just thinking about Eric and all the year’s we were friends light’s up my mood and brings a kind of special happiness to my heart. It is a terrible tragedy that he was taken far too soon, but in this life he clearly left his mark on so many, a deep mark of kindness, goodwill and love.

Eric was a fixture in my neighborhood for nearly 20 years. Always smiling with his sunglasses and headphones, soaking up the California sun. We talked about politics and philosophy and his family in Ohio. He was kind and generous and smart and funny. There's a big hole in my heart and I will miss him dearly.

I was so sad to recently hear that Eric had passed. Eric was a life line to me when I was desperate to reach my son who had moved to Venice from PA and didn’t have a phone. Eric let him call me from his phone and would let me mail letters and packages which Eric faithfully delivered over a period of 4 years. Eric showed exceptional kindness and empathy to a complete stranger!.he was a good man and I will miss him. God Bless you Eric, Rest in peace!

Eric was greatly underestimated and unappreciated. He knew tough times but never resented anyone for these. He was tough, perceptive and savvy. He saw kindness and trust in others, and always reciprocated with respect and humility. I shall miss you my friend, and will always treasure our friendship.

I had the honor of briefly working with Eric at Venice Community Housing. We did not have many encounters however the times we did, it was a pleasant exchange. He will be remembered and I am thankful for the opportunity to have encountered him and the growth he added to my career. Eric's family and loved one's will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Eric, you would always call me and soon as i say hello you would tell me that you had a life! Every time you did that it would make me laugh so loudly. I am going to deeply miss your strong quiet presence at Horizon. Man you have no idea the sadness I am experiencing. Your laugh is like a soundtrack. I remember hearing it for the first time going "what the hell is that" lol!!!! There is now a quiet eery sadness over the building. I cant walk past your door and dont want to. You are an angel always. Rest in peace Eric. I will deeply deeply miss you.

Eric was a great resident and love living here at Horizon. Eric loved the beach and being outside riding his bike. His favorite hobby was recycling cans for extra cash. Eric was always a bright site to see with his laughter and funny jokes.
It was a pleasure being a part of Eric life here at Horizon. Eric will be in our thoughts and Prayers. We will honor Eric life at our tenant meeting on 01/15/26 at 1pm at Horizon Apartments.
