You were the beautiful melody in the rhythm of our life. The music of you life lives on.
Obituary
Emanuel Stephen Cooper, affectionately known to family and friends as "Manny," aged 41, passed away unexpectedly on June 26, 2026, at his residence. While his sudden departure leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who knew him, there is comfort in knowing that he was surrounded by the immense love and presence of his family and close friends.
Emanuel leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love and devotion. He is survived by his loving mother, Valerie Jordan; his cherished son, Emanuel Stephen Cooper Jr.; and his devoted partner, Charnaija "Char" Russell. He will also be deeply missed by a host of extended family members and dear friends whose lives he touched.
He was preceded in death by his father, Stephen Earl Jordan; his maternal grandmother, Irene Johnson Merritt; and his paternal grandparents, Herbert and Joan Jordan.
Manny was a proud graduate of the Business Academy at George Washington High School, class of 2002. He also honorably served his country, stationed in the United States Army from 2009 until 2012, a chapter of his life that reflected his discipline and dedication.
Of all the titles Manny held, however, his greatest joy and proudest achievement was being a father. He loved his son fiercely and unconditionally. Having waited a long time to experience the blessing of fatherhood, he treasured every single milestone—from the pride of changing his first diapers, to witnessing his first steps and hearing his first words. Though he left us far too soon, there is immense gratitude that he was able to step into the role he wanted most, leaving behind his absolute most prized possession in this world: his beloved son.
Manny was a man who embraced life with vibrant passion. He was a huge fan of epic action movies and creature features, with a special love for the thrilling worlds of *Jurassic Park*, *Godzilla*, and *King Kong*. An avid gamer, he loved immersing himself in the universes of *Grand Theft Auto* and *Fortnite*, and he possessed a deep appreciation for the artistry and stories within comic books. A true sports enthusiast, he passionately cheered for the Baltimore Ravens and the UNC Tar Heels, and he never missed the grand spectacle of WrestleMania.
Manny’s spirit was also reflected in his love for music—whether he was listening to the raw energy of gangster rap, the smooth rhythms of R&B, or finding moments of quiet reflection and peace in his gospel music.
Above all, Manny cherished the quiet, everyday moments, especially sharing his morning coffee each day with his devoted partner, Char. He lived fully, loved deeply, and he will be profoundly missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Words to My Mother
My Love Is Unshakeable (From Your Only Child)
Mom, I heard you whisper to the quiet air,
I felt the heavy sorrow in the words you wrote with care.
You told me I could step into your space and freely say,
The times when I was struggling and I wasn't quite okay.
So let me step into your space from where I’m resting now,
To ease the heavy weight that's sitting on your brow.
No matter what you're going through, or how your own heart breaks,
I’m right here standing with you through every breath it takes.
You said your love for me wasn’t temporary or small,
That it was built to stand conditional through it all.
And Mom, because I am your only one, your baby boy,
The one who filled your world with a completely special joy,
I want to give those powerful words right back to you today,
To remind you that my spirit hasn't truly gone away.
The bond we hold between us isn't fragile, weak, or thin,
It doesn't end because a different chapter must begin.
You never have to fight for me, or wonder where I’ll be,
Just look inside your pouring heart and you will find it's me.
My love for you is constant,
Unshakeable and true.
It is forever, Mama—
Just like my love from you.
Words to My Son and Char
A Father's Eternal Promise
To my beautiful boy, my absolute prize,
I’m watching over you now from peaceful skies.
Though my time on earth was cut far too short,
You are my legacy, my anchor, my port.
I waited so long just to hold your hand,
To be the best father I could in this land.
From your very first steps to your very first word,
Every milestone with you was the best thing I heard.
I may not be there to watch you grow tall,
But I promise I'm with you through any fall.
My love isn't temporary, fragile, or small,
It is constant and fierce, the greatest of all.
When you look in the mirror, know I’m part of your grace,
My spirit is wrapped in your gentle embrace.
You never have to fight for my love or my pride,
Because even in Heaven, I am right by your side.
Grow strong, my sweet boy, live a life full and free,
And know that your daddy is as proud as can be.
You are my heartbeat, the best part of my story,
Shine bright in this world,
in all of your glory.
To My Devoted Char
Thank you for the morning coffee,
And the beautiful son we made.
For every quiet, loving moment,
And the foundation that you laid.
Though I had to leave you early,
My spirit hasn't moved away.
I will love you from the quiet skies,
Forever and a day.
