“Life is a lot like jazz - it's best when you improvise.”
― George Gershwin
Obituary
Elliot Abrams of Port St Lucie Fl. passed away on September 6th, 2025 at 90 years old. As a husband, father, friend, musician, veteran, and salesman, he lived a long life, filled with laughter, love, and many stories.
One of four children, Elliot was born in Harlem, New York to Joseph Abrams and Sarah (Slipowitz) Abrams. At the age of 14 he started playing drums, and by 16 he was playing local gigs. His talent, along with his love of jazz, allowed him to play prominent clubs in New York City, as well as affluent resorts in the Catskills. Over the years, his music career would provide opportunities to perform on the Merv Griffin show, tour with Pete Seeger, perform with Nadine Jansen, and contribute to studio work with The Dukes of Dixieland. Above all that, he most valued playing music with his friends.
While living in New York, Elliot loved to go camping upstate. He didn't tell many, but his life dream was to be a park ranger, so when he moved to Florida at age 45, he continued to pursue his love of nature and the outdoors. If he wasn't behind the drums he could be found playing tennis, boating, or kayaking on the St. Lucie River.
Elliot's bright smile, magnetic personality, and sense of humor allowed him to meet people and make friends easily, although he preferred to keep just a handful of close friends. His father taught him early on to stick up for the underdog, to help those in need, and to live life on his own terms, all of which he practiced daily.
Elliot is survived by his wife of 22 years, Barbara Zarrella, his son and daughter-in-law, Jason & Danielle Abrams, and several close friends in the St. Lucie area.
Elliot, we love you and we miss you!
