Tribute

In Loving Memory of Elka Rosemary Gertz,

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Elka Rosemary Gertz, affectionately known as Rosemary, a beloved wife, devoted mother, and cherished friend. We reflect on her vibrant spirit and compassionate heart, celebrating a life exemplified by love, wisdom, and resilience.

Born in Munich, Germany, in 1943, Elka grew into a vibrant and adventurous young woman, who led her life with integrity and the courage to overcome adversity. Despite modest beginnings, her richness of character transcended material wealth. Elka was a remarkable woman, who profoundly impacted all who had the privilege of her acquaintance.

Elka's life was a testament to love and dedication. Marrying Rocco Pollifrone, they nurtured a family graced with three children: John, Cathy, and Bert. Elka's commitment to her family was unwavering, creating a home brimming with love, joy, and invaluable life lessons, which continue to guide her children and grandchildren. Following Rocco's passing, Elka remained steadfast in her role as a nurturing mother, finding joy and purpose in her loved ones and passions.

Her love for dance, led her to Herold Gertz, at a German dance in Adelaide. Their friendship blossomed into love, and ultimately into a 23-year marriage. Together, they enjoyed a shared love of German traditions, cuisine, and culture, weaving beautiful memories with their blended family, friends, and through travels around the world.

Beyond her roles as a wife, mother and grandmother, Elka was a beloved friend known for her strong will, sharp wit, and boundless compassion. She loved social gatherings and sharing a good cappuccino with friends. The fond memories of Mount Barker remained close to her heart, giving her an enduring sense of community. Her impact on others was profound.

While her absence leaves an irreplaceable void, comfort is found in the cherished memories and enduring love she imparted.

As we gather to honor her memory, we will celebrate her remarkable life and bid her a heartfelt farewell on her onward journey. At Elka's memorial service, in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Lung Foundation Australia in Elka's memory, supporting Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease research.

Elka's legacy endures as a symbol of love, strength, and kindness. Her memory lives on through her adoring family, treasured memories, and the countless lives she touched. May she rest in eternal peace.

Forever loved, forever missed, but never forgotten.
