Obituary

Elizabeth (Betty Lou) Hosking, daughter of the late Angelo and Barbara Ventrilio passed away peacefully on February 4th at Bridgeport Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Betty Lou, as she was known to by family and friends and Nonnie to her grandchildren and great-grand children.

She was born on August 28, 1938 in Norwalk, CT. She spent her earlier years in Bridgeport, where she attended Warren Harding High School. She was a Shelton resident since the mid 1970s and was employed by Cartier and as an aide at Ripton School. She most recently resided at Sinsabaugh Heights. Betty Lou’s teen years coincided with the birth of Rock and Roll. She was an avid Elvis Presley fan, and enjoyed the music of the era, amassing a large collection of singles and albums.

Growing up on Bridgeport's East Side allowed her to have many friendships with other teens, often gathering at Jean’s, a soda fountain on lower East Main Street, where the boys and girls who frequented the establishment dubbed themselves Jean’s Vagabonds and Jean’s Vagabondetts. On many summer afternoons she could be found on the beach at Bridgeport’s Seaside Park with her girlfriends rubbing a mix of iodine and baby oil on their backs to get a good tan; today’s sunscreen was still a few years off.

In later years she became a New York Jets fan and would often watch games with her children and grandchildren, mostly yelling at the TV. (Jets fans can relate) She was a huge movie fan, and an avid reader of novels and Biographies. She loved all the sweet things in life but mostly enjoyed her time with her family.  She had a spicy attitude and was always the life of the party.

Betty is survived by her children Cindy (Steve) Kichar, Dena (Sam) Mauri, John (Donna) Hosking. She is also survived by her six grandchildren Jessica, Sam (Alicia), Rachel, Alexa (Brian), Ciana and Abbie. She also has four great-grandchildren Tripp, Celine, Camden and Santino. She is also survived by her sister Sandra Nacewicz, and her brother James Ventrilio.

Services will be held at a later date and time.
