With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Elizabeth Anne Dorsey (nee Kramer), known to all as Betsy, 41, of Poolesville, Maryland, on October 22, 2025, with her devoted husband, Derrick by her side, Betsy’s life was marked by compassion, strength, and deep devotion to her family and friends.
Born on October 7, 1984, in Silver Spring, MD to Wayne and Denise Kramer, Betsy grew up in Dayton, Maryland. After graduating from Glenelg High School in 2002, she attended Washington Adventist School of Radiology Technology. Betsy worked as a Radiology Technologist, first at Children’s National Hospital, followed by Medstar Urgent Care in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Betsy will fondly be remembered by her patients for her big smile while showing them and their families the utmost kindness and compassion.
Betsy is survived by her husband Derrick Dorsey, daughter of her heart Jordyn Dorsey, her parents Donald Wayne Kramer and Becky Denise (Mercer) Kramer, sister Katherine (Katie) Baker and her husband Justin Baker, nephew Jacob Ryan Baker, mother-in-law Debbie Twyman and her husband Sam, nieces Heaven, Nevaeh, and Skye Greene. She leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends who considered her family. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Donald and Barbara Kramer, Luther Denny and Shirley Mercer, aunts Bonnie Mercer Quattlebaum and Lisa Kramer Downum, and Uncle Steven Kramer.
Betsy married her soul mate, Derrick, on September 17, 2016, and together with daughter, Jordyn and constant companion, her lab Remy, they built a loving home filled with laughter and warmth. Their home was always open to friends and loved ones, where Betsy's hospitality and warmth created an atmosphere of comfort and joy for holiday dinners and gatherings. Betsy and Derrick shared a love for travel and adventure, making countless treasured memories on family trips to Deep Creek, beach vacations, cruises and camping trips to Smoke Holes WV with Aunt Tammy and Uncle Gary and the Turtle family.
Betsy was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be remembered for her big heart, humor, loyalty, adventurous spirit, and wisdom, and her immense love and passion for her family and friends. She had a rare gift for making others smile and laugh, leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed his path. She accepted everyone with an open heart, open arms, and a perpetual smile. Betsy exemplified resilience and optimism, especially when facing significant health challenges in recent years. Her deep affection for family and friends was evident, and her passing has created a profound sense of loss among those who were influenced by her compassion and spirit.
A funeral to celebrate her remarkable life will be held at Glenelg United Methodist Church, Glenelg, Maryland on November 8 at 11:00 a.m.
