He is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Gloria “Jean”, his parents Arah and Blair, his brother Edward, and his sisters Norma and Rena. He is survived by his sisters Leora Gardner and Elnora Morgan, his sister-in-law Sandy Calderwood, and many nieces and nephews. After high school, Sam served in the army before marrying Jean. He then started working at Quality Markets in Jamestown, New York as a vice president of Operations for 35 years. Sam was best known for being an avid golfer until the age of 93, achieving eight holes-in one. He never met a stranger and was the life of the party drinking “Samhattens”, telling inappropriate jokes, singing songs that he made up, and playing the harmonica, which he taught himself how to play while sitting on the toilet.
