Even though she's no longer with us, her love for a game of cards and the warmth she brought to every game will forever be cherished in our hearts.
Obituary
with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Elizabeth Jean Stone on April 27, 2025 at the age of 96. She was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. She is predeceased by her loving parents, Elizabeth and Ralph Shorrock, her devoted husband Gerald Stone, siblings Don Shorrock, and Irene (Eric) Mansbridge, and in-laws William Sanderson, Allan Walker, Jean McDougall and Alden Stone.
Jean is survived by her cherished daughter Judy Goodwin, her three grandchildren Evan (Lindsay) Goodwin, Sean (Christy) Goodwin, and Adam Goodwin (Danni), and her four great-grandchildren Owen, Liam, Eva, and Olivia Goodwin, her siblings Doris Walker and Kathy Sanderson, sister-in-law Donna Shorrock, brother-in-law Ken Stone and many nieces and nephews.
Born and raised on a farm in Minnedosa, Manitoba, Jean married Gerald Stone in 1948. Together, they built a beautiful life in Winnipeg, MB, where they raised their family while she spent 40 years as an Avon representative. Summers were spent at their beloved family cottage on Laclu, a place they treasured for 40 years.
Jean was a devoted mother and grandmother, dedicated to her entire family. She was known for her hard work, wit, sociability, and sharp memory. Her passion for her extended family and friends was evident in everything she did. Her hobbies included fishing, playing cards, knitting, and bowling. She had a lifelong love for the game of curling and always cheered proudly for her favorite sports team the Winnipeg Jets, always making sure her grandsons knew who the better team was. In 1998, Jean moved to Okotoks to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren, where she lived for another 27 years. She enjoyed being an active member of the Okotoks Seniors Club and made many special friends line dancing and playing cribbage and canasta. Here she met Don Wright, married in 2010 and they spent 3 years together, enjoying winters in Arizona.
Our deepest thanks to Dr. Richard Ansell for his care over the years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Diabetes Canada, Foothills Country Hospice or a charity of your choosing. Jean will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. We honor her life and will always cherish her memory.

We were sorry to hear of Jean’s passing. She was a fabulous lady and a very supportive Mom and Grandma. She spent many hours at the rink cheering on all the boys. I’m sure she would be there to cheer on the great grandchildren as well. It was always a joy to have a visit with her and there were always a few laughs. She will be dearly missed. Our thoughts are with you all.
Love you all big hugs
Jack Simpson
