I am really sorry to hear about the passing of Dr. Fromer. I was his patient many years ago when I was in college at Columbia university in New York. He was very kind and when he heard that I was a pre-med student, he encouraged me to join the webinars which I had attended in the past and it was a truly valuable learning experience. Today I am a rheumatologist and admire what he has done for the medical community and his impact will be everlasting. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

No words can describe the feeling I have of sadness, a void. Meeting you and working with you was the best decision of my working life- working for you for the years I did, taught me so much about dedication, perseverance, gratitude, respect, love for others, and not expecting a thing in return-whether they were patients who you would know and remember details about them and how you would brighten their life or our staff, you always took time to know their names, to find our what was happening with my techs, our techs, receptionists, doctors, or anyone who are part of the chain that moves FEC. You were always thinking “who can we hire to give them a chance….”. There are hundreds and hundreds of FEC technicians-some now Optometrists, Doctors, Nurses, managers..not only in NY but in many different states. You forever have changed so many peoples’ lives.
I could not wish for a BETTER BOSS, and a good friend.
I am so thankful for all the people who came to be in your life to be your angels, to protect you, to give you the love you much deserved till the very end ❤️🙏
You will forever be missed.
My condolences to your family. I hope God grants them peace and comfort during this difficult time.
To Paola your wife, may God be with you always🙏
With love and respect

I was heartbroken to hear about Dr. Mark Fromer’s passing. He wasn’t just a boss he was someone who truly changed the course of my life. So much of where I am today is because of the trust and opportunities he gave me. He believed in me, pushed me, and always made time when I needed support or guidance.
Dr. Fromer had this calm, steady way about him, and his kindness wasn’t performative it was who he was at his core. He cared deeply about his patients, his team, and anyone lucky enough to be around him. Working alongside him and the FEC family for six years was one of the most impactful times of my life, and I’ll always carry that with me.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family. I hope they find peace and comfort in knowing how loved and appreciated he was by so many.

I pen these humble words thru a veil of sorrow. Having known Mark for 20 years as a friend, colleague, mentor and role model, his loss is profound.! I’m sure that to his family, patients and the Medical community there is a sense of a void. Lost but never forgotten. He was the consummate healer and student. Had an insatiable appetite for knowledge. He was generous about sharing his experience and ability. He possessed a refined but omnipresent astute demeanor blended with a fine sense of humor. A compassionate caregiver/healer who molded his ability around who he was as a person.
About 10 years ago I gifted Mark a complete set of the Texts of Ophthalmology by Sir Stuart Duke Elder, which I knew he would appreciate. I was pleased that they occupied a special place on the shelf behind his private desk. After 53 years in practice, I couldn’t think of a better benefactor! He earned it. His respect for Optometry was obvious. This staff was above reproach. I slept better knowing that my patients were receiving the best of care.
Thank you Mark for being Mark. My heartfelt sympathy to his family of which he always mentioned. It’s always too soon and so difficult. May his memory serve as a living and loving benediction during this the most difficult of times. God Speed my friend!!! As an aside, I always kidded him about his resemblance to the Actor Dennis Quaid!

New York City lost not just an exceptional ophthalmologist, but a truly compassionate human being.
Dr. Mark D. Fromer was more than a colleague. I had the privilege of working alongside him for twelve amazing years as his Practice Administrator. His leadership redefined excellence in medical and surgical eye care across the Bronx, Queens, Harlem, Manhattan, and Westchester.
Dr. Fromer was tirelessly dedicated to his profession, but his commitment extended far beyond medicine. He had a profound vision for uplifting the communities served by Fromer Eye Centers. He didn’t just care for his team, he cared for their families, often treating the eyes of their parents and grandparents with the same dedication. A passionate advocate for optometry, he helped shape the future of the field by founding an ocular disease residency program in collaboration with State University of New York College of Optometry, ensuring the next generation of optometrists received world-class training.
Above all, Dr. Fromer was a humanitarian, a mentor, and a leader whose humility and warmth left a lasting impression. His approachable nature not only with patients, but with everyone around him helped shape the person I am today: as a leader, father, husband, and a human being.
Your 'A' team misses you; your patients will miss you. Dr. Fromer, your legacy lives on in every life you touched. You will never be forgotten.

Although I was a client of Dr. Mark Fromer for two visits, I was extremely impressed by his genuine concern for my eye care. He pointedly asked me why I came to see him and what I expected from him. Yes, he was straightforward, which I preferred, and understood my fears and hesitation to move forward with his recommendations at that time.
One thing that Dr. Mark Fromer said that remained in my heart was, “We treat all our patients as family. We will take good care of you.”
Thank you, Dr. Mark Fromer, for your heartfelt dedication to your profession. The wonderful and caring staff you have assembled is a clear demonstration of the company’s values. May the memory of who you are inspire all to continue striving for excellence.
My heartfelt condolences to The Fromer Family, the Fromer Eye Centers and the Eye Surgery Centers of New York.
Truly, you will be deeply missed. May you rest in peace.

I had the privilege of being Dr. Fromer’s patient since July 2020. I still remember his words when he looked at my retina map and explained the damages and the treatment to follow. He looked at me and said, “We have a long road to go. I will do my job and you will have to do yours.“
Those words came from an excellent doctor, and an even better person.
Dr. Fromer was an amazing human being. For him, patients were people, not just a statistic. He was always kind and explained problems and treatments in a way that you fully understood. He always had a smile on his face. He never said a word to make you feel uncomfortable. On the contrary, his words were always full of wisdom and kindness.
Dr. Fromer was always ready to listen to your problems as if they were his own.
I am saddened to learn about his passing and I send my deepest condolences to his family and friends.
Rest in peace Dr. Fromer,
With my sincerest sympathy,
John Burigo

I remember the last time I saw Dr. Fromer in the Bronx location, he came to the call center to see his Black Ops. Gave us all a big smile and hug and asked how we were doing. Dr. Fromer treated every patient and staff with kindness and respect. I remember a patient once saying when she heard someone complain about the wait time, “I don’t care how long I have to wait for Dr. Fromer, he saved my vision, I’ll wait all day if I have to”. Dr. Fromer was a super hero to patients who came to the office scared and he not only gave them hope, he gave them back their vision. Dr. Fromer, thank you for making the office a place I wanted to be in, not someplace I had to be in. We’re all going to miss you terribly and will continue to give the same dedication and care you gave and expected all of us to give the patients as well. We will not let you down….FEC STRONG!!!!!!!!

I don't know where or how to start. I still can't believe. I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Dr. M Fromer. For over five years, I had the privilege of working alongside someone whose compassion, wisdom, and warmth left a lasting impression on everyone around them.
Dr. M Fromer always had a special way of making people feel valued—I'll especially remember how fondly they used to call me "Princess." That simple word, spoken with kindness and affection, always brought a smile to my face and reminded me of the deep humanity behind their professional excellence.
Please accept my heartfelt condolences. Dr. M Fromer’s memory and legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved them.

Dr. Fromer was not only a remarkable boss, but also a great mentor. It was truly an honor to work with him for nearly nine years. He offered me invaluable opportunities and the space to grow professionally. After every surgical day, he never failed to say thank you—a small gesture that meant so much. He always encouraged us to do our best and made sure we felt appreciated.
Thank you, Dr. Fromer, for everything. You will be deeply missed.

It is with profound sadness that I heard of Dr. Fromer’s passing. As I patient, I experienced Mark’s professional competence, but I always felt more than just a patient. We would talk about more than just eye care and, consequently, I felt a connection to a truly caring human being. We joked and laughed about life. When I saw him in distress and expressed my concern, he acknowledged he was experiencing some health issues; I wished him well. More recently, he looked better, said he felt good and was happy to be back at work. He was struggling, but happy doing what he wanted to do, care for his patients. I have to believe that he was a better person than he was a doctor, a very high standard to overcome, precisely because he was so willing to engage in normal conversation and make a patient feel like a friend. I have great respect for the entire Fromer Eye Care family and know that the sting of Mark’s departure will forever be felt. Nonetheless, who he was and how he was should be a source for emulation and strength. Mark, you are and will be missed, but I tank you for being there for me, for enhancing my life by being a great medical provider and even better friend.

My deepest condolences to the Fromer family and the entire FEC team, both past and present. I’ve been fortunate to be part of this community for the past 10 years - starting as a technician and now as an optometrist.
Dr. Fromer didn’t just build a successful practice; he built a family. He treated everyone with respect, no matter their title, and was a true champion of optometry. His calm, charismatic presence and youthful energy made patients and staff feel instantly at ease. No matter how stressful the day was, he found ways to keep things light - always ready with a joke or a smile.
One of my favorite memories is when he joined us for a swing dancing social. None of us knew how to dance, but he jumped right in, guiding us through the steps and making everyone feel comfortable. Afterward, he told me he hadn’t realized how much he missed dancing until that night and even signed up for ballroom classes. I’d occasionally see him at those socials, and the next day in clinic he’d laugh and say, “You just have to spin Dr. Yusupov like a dreidel and she’ll be happy.”
Thank you Dr. Fromer, for being an incredible mentor, a kind and steady presence, and unexpectedly, a wonderful dance partner. You will be deeply missed.

Dr. Mark Fromer had the inspirational vision to bridge the gap between optometrists and ophthalmologists by bringing us together in unison by providing mutual continuing education programs to all who sought out to improved their clinical skills. He had a twinkle in his eye that said it all…. Give your best to everybody each and every day so that we can unite to provide the absolute best eyecare. My deepest condolences to the family , and to all whose lives were touched by this visionary leader. May God comfort and grant you peace.

It is with a heavy heart that we say farewell to an extraordinary doctor, compassionate friend, dedicated mentor, and truly remarkable human being.
I extend my deepest condolences to Dr. Fromer’s family, his friends, the entire FEC team, and every person whose life he touched and transformed throughout his remarkable career.
Dr. Fromer’s legacy lives on in every patient he cared for, every doctor he guided, and every current and former FEC employee. He was unwavering in his commitment to delivering the highest quality care. Always embracing the latest technologies and treatments to ensure his patients received nothing but the best.
He believed deeply in growth, education and encouraging his technicians to continue learning, even if it meant bringing in outside experts. He welcomed new technicians and scribes with open arms, no matter how much experience they had, always supported by Marcia’s steady guidance. Despite leading a team of over 100 people, Dr. Fromer knew every single person by name—a testament to his remarkable character and care.
He greeted everyone with a warm smile, a hug, and often a lighthearted joke. His Christmas parties were legendary. He celebrated every success with his team and never missed a chance to join us on the dance floor.
We were truly fortunate to be part of what I lovingly call Fromer University. It was there that I discovered my passion for ophthalmology, and for that, I will always be grateful.
Rest in peace, Dr. Fromer.
Your light, your leadership, and your legacy will forever remain in our hearts.

I still find it hard to accept that Dr. Mark Fromer is no longer with us. Having spent nearly a decade at Eye Surgery Centers of New York, it’s hard to imagine the place without his presence. I will forever cherish the way Dr. Fromer shaped us into who we are today. His dedication to building ESCNY and his mission to help others see better will always be remembered. I am truly grateful for the impact he had on our lives and the lives of so many others. Thank you Dr. Mark Fromer for all that you have done. Your absence will be deeply felt, but you will forever remain in our hearts. May you find peace in your rest.

I met Mark about 20 years ago and always looked at him like an older brother. He was generous with his time and knowledge- especially when it came to the challenges of running a practice. Thank you for your guidance, your honesty, and your insight Mark. You will be missed.

To have known Mark is to love him, forever. Such a wholehearted kind man, who always wore his heart on his sleeve. I am truly saddened by the news and want to express my deepest condolences to his family and those who were close to him and of course those who worked side by side with him, like myself. It’s truly hard to find the right words in a moment like this—when someone who made such an impact is suddenly gone. You weren’t just a boss; you were a mentor, a leader, and someone who carried wisdom, strength, and kindness wherever you went. The way you believed in people, pushed them to be better, and led with integrity left a mark that will never fade.
Your presence was powerful—firm yet compassionate, professional yet personal. You made work feel like more than just a job; you made it a place of growth, inspiration, and purpose. You were the kind of leader who saw potential where others didn’t, who gave chances, who made people feel seen and valued. And for that, I will always be grateful.
It’s painful to say goodbye. Your absence leaves a silence that echoes loudly in the halls, in our hearts, and in the countless lives you touched. But your legacy—your wisdom, your drive, your heart—will live on in every one of us who had the privilege to work beside you.
Thank you for everything, Mark. You will never be forgotten.💐🩷

It is with great sadness that I heard of Dr. Fromer's passing. He looked after my eyes for over 10 years. Residents always saw me first and he then examined me. I was always amazed at the kindness, competence and professionalism with which he would discuss their work. He would listen to their explanation of their conclusions and when he felt they had reached a better conclusion than he had, he was not hesitant to adopt their analysis. That is the mark of someone with integrity, courage and character. And Dr, Fromer had all of those in abundance. He made me feel confident that all will be well. I will miss him dearly. May God bless his family and may his soul rest in peace. Francis Dsouza

I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of De. Fromer. It’s hard to put into words how much I respected and admired him, not only as a leader and as a doctor but as a genuinely kind, caring and inspiring person and professional.
Working with Dr.Fromer was an honor and a true joy. He led with grace, patience, and strength, and created an environment where his stuff felt valued, heard, and encouraged to grow, and his patients loved, appreciate a care. I carry many lessons and warm memories, I will definitely will miss to hear him sing to me (Angie by The Rolling Stone), and I will always be grateful for the opportunity to learn, grow and work alongside someone so exceptional.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and all of us who were lucky enough to know him
May his soul rest in peace.

Dr. Mark Fromer was an incredible man and a wonderful mentor. I met him before I officially started at FEC at the end-of-year residency celebration in June of 2022. He immediately introduced himself and made me feel so at ease and confident in my choice to work at FEC.
I never thought my last name was particularly difficult to pronounce, but after working with him a bit, he officially christened me "Dr. Fabulous," which never failed to make me laugh. He also very graciously saw my dad as a patient, and the two of them bonded over their shared first name ("spelled the right way with a K!").
I will forever be grateful to Dr. Fromer for providing me with the best place to start my optometric career after residency. Rest easy, Dr. Fromer.
Fromer.

The first time Dr. Fromer came into my office, he sat down in the chair and said, "Ana, do you know people can retire here?!"
I'll remember him and his big smile and laughter. My condolences to the Fromer family, friends and the staff that became his family.

My greatest condolences for the family and loved ones of Dr. Mark Fromer. I don’t think it goes unnoticed the legacy that he has left behind, which he did, not for legacy’s sake, but for the New York community and beyond it created. It was an absolute honor to know Dr. Fromer and be a part of the FEC family.

Dr. Mark Fromer it was truly an honor and a privilege to have met you. Thank you for the opportunity of being part of this amazing work family. It will never be the same without but we will continue pushing forward. I will miss ordering your breakfast and lunch on your surgical days.

Fromer family and the FEC team. Mark’s impact on eye care in New York City and beyond cannot be overstated. His practice cares for hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers. He also provided me with my first job out of residency. I would not be the doctor I am today without him giving me a chance. His practice trained so many optometry students and residents; the ripple effect of this training is truly far-reaching. I’m so grateful for my time at FEC developing as young optometrist and a chance to teach the next generation. Dr. Fromer’s leaves a huge legacy. May he Rest in Peace.

My deepest condolences to Fromer family & friends. Dr. Fromer was the man! Every morning, he walked into the surgery center with his cool sunglasses, ordered his green juice and it was go time lol... Dr. Fromer showed so much passion in what he did. I remember one day he went around the whole entire center asking everyone would they retire at 65 or 70 lol everyone said 65 of course and he would laugh at them & told everyone Neither that If he can work forever, he would!!! ... I am honestly still in shock, it almost does not feel real. Dr. Fromer, thank you for the opportunity you have gave me and others, you will be missed dearly... <3

I am in utter shock and cannot believe you are not here anymore.
I had the honor of getting to know you coming into your office scared out of my mind because no doctor wanted to perform Lasik on my eyes. I have known you for over 12 years and in those 12+ years we have had so many laughs. You were truly one of a kind and will be greatly missed. Rest in peace my friend and I am glad I had the opportunity to know you and call you a friend.
My deepest condolences to Susan and your family.

I had the privilege of rotating through Fromer Eye Centers and working with Dr. Fromer during my fourth year at SUNY Optometry. I will never forget the first time I met Dr. Fromer-I was so anxious with the start of the rotation, but Dr. Fromer immediately made me feel welcome at the practice and was so encouraging to me and emphasizing his support for optometrists. I consider myself lucky having had the opportunity to learn from Dr. Fromer in those three months.
My deepest condolences to Dr. Fromer's family and the entire Fromer Eye Center team. We all lost a great colleague, friend, and teacher who will not be forgotten.

I’m having a hard time accepting that you’re not with us anymore. Words will never describe the heart you showed us Dr. Fromer. It’s not easy to write this but i always remembered you as a smiling, dapper & soulful man. You carried this vibrant energy with you and I know your patients felt safe in your hands. I worked first hand with you in exam rooms and appreciated sincerely those moments to teach about explain ophthalmology to a kid who just graduated high school and barely knew anatomy. I will forever be thankful for the opportunity you and Marcia took upon me and setting me up for a career in Healthcare. You sincerely cared about your staff and gave everyone chances when no one else would. You saw the best in everyone and I’ll never forget the legacy you established in trying to serve communities where it severely lacked eye care. I’m glad I got to see you personally 2 years ago and thanked you for everything you did not just for me, but everyone you took under your wing. Dr. Fromer, I made it far in life and learned to love and respect the medical field, thanks to you.
My sincerest condolences to Dr. Fromer’s family. I hope you find peace and cope with his passing in a healthy manner.

My condolences to family, friends and his FEC family. I worked closely with Dr. Fromer for 16 years. He saw potential in me and he trained me. I thank you, I am where I am cause of you. You gave your time teaching me. You shaped and molded me to be the best version of myself. You always said raise the bar higher each time you reach your goal. That's how you grow. You hired more help to improve your staff. I got to see your vision grow, I learned so much from so many different physicians. I did miss the FEC family. I always will remember you for your smile and energy when you walked into a room, your dance moves at our Christmas parties. Boy they were great! Life takes us on different journeys, but I will always remember my journey at FEC. Losing someone is never easy, I pray for healing hearts, and that all may find comfort knowing you are resting and no pain. Rest easy Dr. Fromer.

My deepest condolences to the Fromer family, as well as to the entire FEC family. The work environment at FEC fostered a true sense of family. I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the opportunity to have worked at FEC and for the wealth of knowledge in ophthalmology that I gained during my time there.

I am sorry for your loss, and I thank Dr. Mark Fromer for his dedication and care during my cataract surgery, your support has been invaluable.
July 24, 2025
Dr. Fromer took a chance on hiring me as a technician even though I had no idea really what an eye was or anything about ocular disease: now I am a third year optometry student and I know I wouldn’t have pursued eye care without his guidance. He was a caring physician and gifted vitreoretinal surgeon. Most importantly, he always made his patients feel seen and taught his staff to do the same. I offer my condolences to his family and to the FEC family. He will surely be missed.

My deepest condolences to the family. My prayers and thoughts are with you during this difficult time..
Mark Fromer was not only an intelligent physician but also a compassionate person to all. Like many of us, we started in the company young and sort of grew up there. On Thursdays, he came to the Queens location, but every so often he would visit us in the billing department. I remember being a newly hired 20-year-old and Dr Fromer came over to introduce himself to me. (Even though we all knew who he was, he still made the effort and simply introduced himself as Mark. Not Dr. Fromer) It was a kind gesture I will never forget as he did not see his employees as lesser than, we were all a family regardless of our position. He really influenced me to do better in life. He told me that education does not end with school, and I should push myself to do more. And that is exactly what I did. I know that I’m not the only young person he helped mentor and shape for a better future. I remember there were times where I got myself into some challenging situations, and he would pull me aside for a chat and give advice if he could....The last time I saw and spoke to him was late 2023. You never know when would be the last time you see or speak to someone. He was such a remarkable man, very fun to be around. I will never forget him.
Forever,
Crystal

I remember starting my OT journey at FEC more than 10 years ago. And being so nervous when I was told I’d be working with “the Dr. Fromer”, but all my nerves were put at ease when he walked in the room and started telling bad dad jokes. After that, I knew I’d be ok.
He was lighthearted and very kind. He was a great teacher, always willing to share his knowledge and expertise. He showed passion for what he did and truly cared for his patients.
I was one of the lucky people to know his presence. My condolences and deepest sympathy to his family and staff 💐.
Rest easy Dr. Fromer 🙏🏻

My condolences to Dr. Fromer’s family, friends, & staff. I started working at Fromer Eye Centers in 2006 until 2014 I left only because I moved to NJ. Dr. Fromer always treated us like family he even went to my wedding in 2008. He always meant business at work but outside of work he was lots of fun and he was a great man. My heart broke when I heard of his passing. I will never forget how loving he was to all of us and how he made me feel like family. Dr. Fromer loved eating the flan I would make. I will always remember his smile and his caring heart. I will be praying for healing for Lisa, his beautiful daughters and his extended family. May the Lord bring you all peace during this hard time. God Bless always Fromer will be forever in my heart. ❤️

It is with a heavy heart that I type this, I worked for Dr. Fromer on and off for about 8years and can say I have never worked for anyone like him now or before. Dr. Fromer was the kind of doctor you rarely come across—brilliant, compassionate, and always deeply committed to his patients and his team. He led with grace, kindness, and integrity. He believed in the best in people and brought it out in all of us. Working under his guidance was not only a privilege—it shaped me into the professional I am today. He proved that hard work and compassion for others pays off.
His loss is felt deeply by everyone who had the joy of knowing him. It’s hard to believe he’s gone so soon, but his legacy lives on in every life he touched. I will forever be grateful for the years we shared and the lessons he passed on.
Rest in peace, Dr. Fromer, You were truly one of a kind, and you are so dearly missed.

It is with deep sadness that we mourn the passing of Dr. Fromer, an extraordinary physician, mentor, and compassionate healer. For seven years, I had the privilege of working alongside him in his ophthalmology practice, where his dedication, wisdom, and kindness left an indelible mark on my life and the lives of countless others.
Dr. Fromer’s work ethic was nothing short of impeccable. He approached every patient, every procedure, and every challenge with unwavering commitment and precision. His expertise was matched only by his genuine care for those he treated, not just as patients, but as individuals whose lives he could improve. His impact stretched far beyond the walls of his practice, touching people across the world who benefited from his skill and compassion.
More than a brilliant doctor, Dr. Fromer was a devoted teacher. He nurtured not only his patients but also those of us fortunate enough to learn from him. His guidance shaped careers, his kindness lifted spirits, and his legacy will continue through the many lives he transformed.
The world has lost a remarkable healer, but his spirit lives on in the countless people he cared for, the colleagues he inspired, and the difference he made every single day. Rest in peace, Dr. Fromer. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

My deepest condolences to Dr. Former's family, as well as to the entire FEC family because that’s exactly what he created: a true family. Dr. Former is a legend, not just in the world of ophthalmology, but as a human being. The man. The myth. The legend. And he will forever remain just that.
He had a way of making everyone feel welcomed, valued, and seen. Whether you were new or had been with FEC for years, he greeted you with open arms and a warm heart. Thank you, Dr. Former, for everything. Your impact lives on.

I am deeply thankful for the opportunity I had to work with Dr. Mark Former years ago. He was more than just a doctor or a boss—he was a genuinely kind and compassionate human being who made a lasting impact on everyone around him.
I’ll always remember those Mondays when he’d walk into the Bronx office with a warm smile on his face, instantly lifting the spirits of the entire team. He had a way of making people feel seen, valued, and cared for.
One moment that stays close to my heart was during my pregnancy. I was in Room 1—the wheelchair room—and I must have looked pale and tired. Dr. Former noticed right away and gently asked if I had eaten. When I said no, he looked genuinely concerned.
When my grandmother was losing her vision, he did everything in his power to help her see again. That kind of dedication and compassion is rare.
Dr. Former was an amazing doctor, mentor, and leader. I am forever grateful that I had the chance to work with him and witness the goodness he brought into the world. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, including mine.
Rest peacefully, Dr. Former. You will never be forgotten.
