Obituary

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Lyly, who was born on 6th May 1978 in Bacau, Romania; and passed away on 3rd March 2026 in Southport, United Kingdom.

Lyly will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and her ability to help people. Family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues all experienced the warmth and sincerity that made time spent with Lyly meaningful.

Throughout life, Lyly built lasting connections and touched many lives through simple acts of care, guidance, and friendship. Conversations, shared moments, and everyday gestures created memories that will remain with those who had the privilege of knowing Lyly.

Family meant a great deal to Lyly, and the loving relationship with her husband Dr. Pascual Marques was always nurtured with patience and devotion. Friends valued her loyalty and sincerity, while colleagues appreciated dedication and a thoughtful approach to work and collaboration.

The passing of Lyly leaves a space that cannot be filled. Yet the memories, lessons, and moments shared will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know her.

Lyly will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

Funeral Service

The ceremony service will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. 483 Liverpool Rd., Ainsdale, Southport, PR8 3BP.
The burial at Liverpool Road Cemetery. 473 Liverpool Rd, Southport, PR8 3BN.

             Date of funeral: Friday 20th March at 10 am. Burial at 11:15 am.
             Webcast: For friends and family who would like to watch the funeral service.

Elena and I shared an office at Edge Hill. She was a lovely friend and colleague, always so kind, generous and super-hardworking. I have many fond memories of times we spent chatting. I remember her love of Lanzarote and I was always admiring her gorgeous collection of coats and bags. Elena will be so sadly missed and I am so glad to have known her. I was lucky enough to work with Elena on our “Three Pillars - Integrative Learning Communities” which she championed at Edge Hill University. Elena was a complete star, both then and afterwards with her inclusive style, team ethos and student support. Her resilience in the face of her tragic accident was breathtaking. It was an honour to know you, Elena.

I had the privilege of having Elena as my doctoral chair during my studies at Capitol Tech. Elena was a kind and intelligent woman. Before she was assigned my chair my doctoral journey felt overwhelming. She made it feel possible through her guidance and support. She is gone entirely too soon. You will be missed and never forgotten Elena.

I first knew Elena as a student. She was an absolute joy to teach, so bright, so engaged & yet always unassuming. Later I had the pleasure of working with her. She was the most generous of colleagues. A beautiful woman inside & out. Such a sad loss. She will be missed by many. My condolences to her loved ones xxx

I had the privilege of teaching Elena during her BSc (Hons) degree at Edge Hill University (EHU). She was very conscientious and professional in her attitude as a student, and determined to do her best. In the years which followed I was delighted to be able to ease her way back into EHU as a staff member. I will always remember many things about Elena. In addition to her professionalism, I will recall her warm personality and 'dry' sense of humour. She was a remarkable person. My thoughts and prayers remain with her family at this time.

Elena was a great colleague whom I got to know by Zoom during dissertation and thesis defenses. She was dedicated to her students' success and through her work, she touched many lives. We miss her and mourn her passing. Requiescat in pace.
