Obituary

Dennis Edward Watson, a beloved elder of the Chillum Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, fell asleep in death on July 4, 2026, at the age of 64. Born in Washington, D.C., on July 31, 1960, he grew up in a family that valued faith, unity, and doing what is right — a childhood marked by joy, creativity, and a love for drawing superheroes. Many described him as “a decent, loving, caring individual who will give you the shirt off his back.” His three defining qualities — strong, trustworthy, and a leader — showed in both his ministry and his work.

SPIRITUAL LIFE & SERVICE

Dennis dedicated his life to Jehovah on July 11, 1992, and served faithfully for decades. He helped build his spiritual home, the Kingdom Hall, during volunteer construction in 1994–1995. His brother Lawrence shared that Dennis’ faith “kept him grounded.” As an elder, he was known for compassion, steady leadership, and a readiness to help anyone in need. He cherished his nieces and nephews and treated many in the congregation as spiritual family. A cherished highlight was his part in a District Convention drama performed before thousands. He held to the resurrection hope of John 5:28, 29 and Revelation 21:3, 4.

FAMILYDennis is survived by his brother, Rev. Lawrence Watson Sr.; his aunt Evelyn Henderson; and cousins Pamela, Chris, and Kim Henderson. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Richard and Martha E. Watson; his mother Laura May Watson; his aunt Sarah Swift; his uncle Robert Swift; and his cousin Kenneth Swift.


CAREER & ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Professionally, Dennis was a highly skilled architectural and structural technician who left a lasting mark on the built environment of the Washington, D.C. region. His work spanned several years for various firms such as Weidlinger Associates, KCE Structural Engineers, Canam Steel Corp., and MMP International. His projects included the Department of Transportation Headquarters, the National Museum of the Marine Corps, Dulles Discovery Phases I–III, Pentagon restoration work, and INTELSAT Headquarters. He earned an Associate of Applied Science in Architectural Engineering Technology from the University of the District of Columbia and tutored students in drafting.

MEMORIES

Dennis loved music — especially Earth, Wind & Fire, The Jackson 5, and the Clark Sisters. His humor, including stories like “catching the baseball,” brought laughter to all around him. What his loved ones will miss most is simply being with him.
