Obituary
Dennis George Rex, age 78, passed away on November 11, 2025, at his home in Williams, Oregon.
Born in Ashfield, Pennsylvania, Dennis was the youngest child of George and Alma Rex. He graduated with honors from Penn State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. His distinguished career spanned decades in the laser Engineering and Semiconductor industries, where he was admired for his technical expertise, curiosity, and dedication to solving complex problems. He also took a four-year hiatus to serve as an Engineering Officer in the U.S. Maritime Service, a chapter that took him to ports around the globe.
Dennis’s passions extended far beyond his professional life. He had been a private aerobatic pilot, target shooter, Ham radio enthusiast, scuba diver, fisherman, and woodworker, always eager to master new skills. In recent years, he found particular joy in caring for and managing the forested land on his Oregon property—a place he cherished deeply. Dennis often said he wanted to work “as long as he could think,” and he remained employed and intellectually engaged until the time of his passing.
Dennis is survived by his wife and best friend of 42 years, Julie; his sister, Marjorie, of Roaring Gap, North Carolina; and his nieces and nephews. His sister Eileen preceded him in death. He will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His sharp mind, steady work ethic, adventurous spirit, and the kindness he showed will leave a lasting imprint, and his absence will be deeply felt by those fortunate enough to have known him.
Dennis' final resting place will be a private burial in his hometown, facing the beautiful Blue Mountains of Ashfield, Pennsylvania.
