David Quinn

Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day. In loving memory of David Quinn, a life well-lived and deeply cherished.

Obituary

In memory of David Quinn, who passed away at home on 19 July 2024, after a two year battle with lung cancer. Born 10th November 1951, David was a man who touched the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a loving husband to Marie and a doting father to daughter Yvonne. David's social nature meant he seemed to know everyone in the community, always ready with a story or a helping hand. Beneath his hard exterior lay a heart of gold, full of kindness and a readiness to give to those in need.

David's friends and family will gather to celebrate his life and bid farewell at a funeral service to be held at The Cathedral Parish, Motherwell, on Thursday, 8th August. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to be made in his memory to The Beatson Cancer Trust, who supported David and his family in his battle. Your generous donation will serve as a meaningful tribute, perpetuating the resilient spirit of David who longed for alternative treatments and cures to become available for him and others.

Though he has left us, the memories of David's love, strength and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

I lived next to Davie, Laburnum Rd Viewpark. He always seemed to have a smile on his face.. Chopping firewood one day I nearly cut Davies finger off by accident. Whenever I met him he used to show me the scar on his finger and we would have a laugh about it.
He will be sadly missed by all. RIEP Davie..

As Yvonne's new boyfriend, and an English one at that! You had every reason to be skeptical or dismissive of my prescence, and lord knows I was warned you might be... But how wrong I was to assume. From the moment I walked in your house that first Christmas and met you the first time, you made sure I was looked after properly throughout. I thought I liked a drink and considered myself able to handle it well, but you kept me three drinks deep the whole time 😂
Not sure if you were tryna put me to sleep or get me drunk enough to fdeciober your accent but either way, was one of the most hospitable welcomes and Christmases I've ever had.
Thankyou for looking after me that first Christmas, it won't be soon forgotten, And I promise to return the favour in looking after yours until you can take it up again.
Its been a pleasure.
Carl.

With over 34 years of memories to cherish, one of the things that's have blown me away since losing you is the memories friends old and new have shared about you and your welcoming nature and generosity; from force feeding my friends with offers of food, even when they say they're not hungry or have no idea what roasted cheese is, to ensuring everyone always have two drinks in their hand when they come to the home to visit. You made a lasting impression on everyone that I brought home, even if some struggled to understand your accent. Only now am I realising that you are where my need to ensure everyone takes a shot along with me comes from.

We fought like cat and dog, but we loved one another deeply. Thank you for distilling your work ethic, giving nature and perhaps your stubbornness into me - it's made me who I am and I'm proud of that. You've always taught me to keep my high balls low and it will stay with me until we meet again.

All my love, always xo
Yvonne Quinn
