I have many memories of David, all of them brief encounters. We had a professional relationship for over 30 years. During those years, we would have one or two annual telephone conversations and some email exchanges.

With that said, I feel like I knew David more as a friend than a business associate. He was always friendly, considerate and warm.

I will miss those encounters moving forward and will do my best to assist his family in any way I am able, which I know he would want from me and appreciate.

I was the Public Affairs Officer for the Inyo National Forest and worked with David, and other partners, on forest planning and travel management plans. It was collaborative partners like David that helped the Inyo Plan be the first successful forest plan (not litigated). David had a way of welcoming all collaborators, including those with very different interests, and working to find common ground and solutions for everyone, David's kind and open nature were integral to this success.
