I was 4 years old when my grandfather passed away, so I never got to know him well, however one of my earliest childhood memories is sitting with him on the back porch of their Palm Beach house having quiet conversation. He may have carried a different memory of that time no doubt (crazy kid running around the backyard) but the gentle, kind and quiet nature of the man will stay with me. I got to know this nature even better from his son over my life from the many times our lives transited. I admired his gentle and quiet ways matched with intelligent conversation and love of nature and try to emulate these traits in my life. I’m lucky to have so many memories of David to carry with me forward.

Dear David, a book could be written of his good humour and kindnesses and still there would be more lovely stories to be told! We had the great pleasure of being neighbours when we moved in across the road 30 years ago. David had a wonderful way of listening, providing wise advice when asked, and then coming back with a chuckle and good humour that always lightened the load. David and Norma together were a wonderful team and shared their wisdom and the kindness of Jesus, encouraging us as a family in many ways.
I love that David was so passionate about dogs and the environment and it was with both these things that we really got to know him well. When our dog became an escape artist in storms, David and his family became his 'second family'. A residents' action group formed in our street to stop damage to the eastern escarpment and David, Norma, and their kids all got involved, rallying the neighbours, and writing amazing submissions including an ecological report that I think Council really had no substantive answers to. It was at this time that I had the pleasure of really getting to know the Hollis family. How very intelligent, kind and thoughtful they all really are and how central to the family David was. Such a loving Dad, grandfather and husband.
David will be greatly missed by many, especially so by his family. But what a gift it has been to have known such a man! May the memories grow sweeter, his good humour more precious.
It is a wonderful thing to live with faith and a great comfort to die holding the promises of Jesus dear.
With many fond memories from the Begg family.

David Hollis ! David was such a wise and gracious man. Together with Norma they welcome us to the Mount Riverview's area when we moved from Adelaide. We were without friends and family in the western Sydney and the Blue Mountains area. David welcome us to his family with open hearts and open home. David was a godly man who knew God intimately and always live a Biblical-based lifestyle.
Our family will missed David fondly but very grateful that we got to meet David and Norma with their family. Blessings of Christ's Grace and Peace to David Hollis' remaining families

My heartfelt condolences and shared grief go out to David's family in particular David's wife Norma, son Greg, daughters Belinda, Stephanie and Jenny.
David was a very giving and highly intelligent and capable man, having made big contributions to CSIRO in his managerial position for several decades, and putting all of his children through university in the 1980s and 1990s. In addition, David was a great father to his children, and a fabulous husband to Norma, plus a wise and supportive friend to me since the 1980s, when I attended Armidale University and was good friends with Greg Hollis. I remember David as a keen and avid body surfer who loved the ocean, and adventure walker, in his trips to Burril Lakes in the NSW south coast, plus in his family holidays to Mooloolooba in South East Queensland.
David was indeed a man of good faith in God, and I now know that he is resting in the embrace of Jesus in heaven, in everlasting life and peace. May God reward you and bless you David, for all the good you have done for your family and friends and others you encountered; and for being a damn fine good bloke. Rest in Peace, Love to David and all family, Karl

Uncle David was such a caring and loving man of faith. He deeply loved God and he deeply loved his family. I distinctly remember being anxious and fearful waiting by a hospital bed with Al (my husband who had sustained a broken neck), and Uncle David phoned me and prayed with us over the phone - reminding us of what was truly important and to take refuge in Jesus in difficult times. He continued to check in on us over the following weeks/months and that’s a testament to the kind of man he was. He was a man who truly cared for the wellbeing of others’ and a man who pointed people to Jesus. Visiting and staying at Uncle David and Auntie Norma’s home was always a joy. I will always treasure those memories. I’m sorry that Uncle David is no longer with us but I’m certain his family is confident he can say “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith,” and that he is now at peace and at home with the Father. 💛🙏xxx

To David's family,
During my 20-year association with CSIRO's Prospect laboratory, David was always an inspiration as an astute scientist and dear friend to me in the early years of my science journey. He was most helpful and always very positive with any enquiries I had relating to our studies of Merino skin morphology. I am just hopeful that you shared many wonderful times with him in his retirement. Fond memories of David will remain with me forever. Please accept my condolences, Peter

It has been a very sad and difficult time for David and his family over the past few months. David fought a long and tireless battle and it was with sadness we heard that David had died on Thursday morning. He died knowing he had been surrounded by a loving and caring family during his lifetime. He is now at peace and with God in whom he had great faith. David loved his cars and I recall many occasions watching the Bathurst 500 along with endless cricket over Christmas. I also spent many happy holidays with the family. My sister chose a very loving, faithful and caring family man as her husband and I know all of those 60 or so years will have many treasured memories. Rest in Peace David.

Ron Cox - sad news about David Hollis. A very kind and considerate person.

David was a passionate protector of our environment, and it was through bushcare that we had the privilege of getting to know him. He worked tirelessly to stop the destructive bike tracks through our bushland, always driven by a deep love for the place we call home. David’s commitment to preserving our natural spaces was inspiring, but it was his kindness and the thoughtful chats we shared that truly stood out. Above all, his love for his family was evident in everything he did. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, David will be deeply missed.

I first met David when I worked at CSIRO and met Norma at Foothills Vineyard Church. David loved teaching me about Christianity and I looked forward to hearing his teachings. He was a wonderful man and loved Norma so much. He will be sadly missed. Thinking of Norma and his family. May David rest in peace.

Alan and I met David and Norma at Blaxland uniting church in the 70’s. David was a gentle humble man who loved reaching out to people, welcome, encouraging and godly. It was evident he loved the Lord, and His faith was strong. I know he will be missed by his family. But safe with Jesus.

We were very sad to hear the news of David’s passing. We have lovely memories of David, Norma and indeed the whole Hollis family from our Blaxland Uniting days . I remember doing a bible study at the Hollis home and will always remember David as being kind, gentle and welcoming and I always valued his quiet input. Our prayers and thoughts are with Norma and the family at this difficult and sad time. Rest in peace David.

I grew up going to church with the Hollis' and primary school with Jen. To me, David was Mr Hollis, and he represented a grounded faith and deep wisdom, always shared with a quiet grace. I also loved bumping into David and Norma in more recent years when I visited church at Mt Riv. Still loving Jesus! My prayers are with you all, Natalie xxx

When i was about three years old, i gave my Grandad this yellow mini to help keep him safe while he was in hospital. He kept it with him on his bedside table even when he came home. Grandad kept it next to his bed always because it remined him of me. I'm really going to miss my Grandad. Grandad was the best!

I remember meeting David for the first time at Concord West. I was only ten and he was my big sister’s fiancé. He made me laugh because he had a great sense of humour and was oh so kind to me. Always remained the same wonderful and kind brother-in-law.
Later on he made our children just a welcome when Rex and I visited..
