About Darryl
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Darryl Arthur Foreman on April 27, 2024, at the age of 82. Darryl was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, friend, and mentor, whose warm presence and infectious spirit will be forever missed.
Darryl’s vibrant personality endeared him to many. He was full of curiosity, intelligence, and energy. His outgoing, fun-loving nature guided him to always embrace new experiences, meet new people, and learn about the world. He found beauty in the breadth of humanity and encouraged others to discover and embrace this beauty as well.
Darryl was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in 1942. As a young man, he took a job surveying for a mining company in the forests north of Vancouver. While learning about the land, he forged a strong bond with nature and was fascinated by stories of the people who had dwelt upon it. He went on to study Architecture, Planning, and Urban Design, as well as West Coast Native Peoples’ Art and Mythology and eventually graduated with a masters degree from the University of British Columbia’s School of Architecture. All the while, he continued working, got married, and began raising a family.
Darryl worked for a number of Vancouver architecture firms before joining Mobil Land Development Corporation. This decision led him to move his family to Palo Alto, California, in 1976, where he was to play a key role in the development of Redwood Shores, California, and similar residential projects in Colorado, Virginia, and Texas. He also spent a number of years leading the development of River Islands in Lathrop, California, before establishing his own businesses: Land Planning + Entitlements (LP+E Inc.), Delta Habitat LLC, and Strata Habitat Foundation. These entities furthered his commitment to protecting and preserving the environment, a desire born years ago in the woods of the North West Coast.
Darryl’s love for the ocean, piqued as an early scuba diver in the waters of British Columbia, inspired him to enjoy a lifetime of boating, fishing, snorkeling, and traveling. Cruising the San Francisco Bay and the Sacramento Delta, usually with friends or family in tow, was one of his favorite pastimes.
“It’s not the story itself, but how you tell it.” He offered this advice freely, often to his grandchildren. Colorful stories of his past, blended with laughter and plenty of cheer, would inevitably follow. He relished the telling, and his listeners delighted in the tale.
Fatherhood was Darryl’s proudest achievement, and his four sons are a testament to the love and care he put into parenting. Of all his accomplishments and interests, fatherhood made its way straight to his heart. What it found there was true love.
Always dapper in his white linen suit and Panama hat, Darryl was a charmer. He was the life of the party and a teller of tales. He was a bon vivant, lover of humanity, and keeper of the land. He was our friend, father, and grandfather. He was the heart of the family.
The loss of Darryl is profound, but his influence, spirit, and teachings will continue to live on and inspire those who knew him to live fuller, richer, and more compassionate lives. His values, passions, and zest for life are enduring qualities that define his legacy.
Darryl is survived by his wife Jeanne Foreman, his sons Todd Foreman, Aaron Foreman, Whit Johnson, and Zev Foreman, and his grandchildren Daisy, Tom, Smith, Birdy, and Liv.
A celebration of his life will take place on September 14, 2024, in Larkspur, California. Friends, family, and all those whose lives were touched by Darryl are invited to join to remember and celebrate his spirited life.

He shared his insights, knowledge and humor generously.
I had the pleasure of meeting and working with him thru Delta Habitat, River Islands development in Lathrop, Ca. Darryl was so very kind and knowledgeable with regards to the environment. It was a joy to meet with him and get to know his views on preserving the delta, which he held dear. I will smile fondly in remembering you at Anna's office and out chats. Fly free and God bless............
