Obituary
Daniel William Stephenson was born on December 21, 1936, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to Harry Stephenson and Cleante Herard, where he was raised with strong values of faith, family, and hard work. Guided by these principles, he later migrated to Brooklyn, New York, where he began a new chapter of life. For many years, he worked diligently as a Checker with the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) Local 1, providing for his family and serving as a pillar of strength and dedication for his family, church, and community. Family was always at the center of Daniel’s life. He was first married to Micheline, with whom he shared a beloved daughter, Dinah Douyon. He later married, Milagros, and together they shared 53 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, devotion, and faith. Their union was blessed with two sons, Daniel Stephenson and David Stephenson. Daniel’s love extended far beyond his home. He was an active and dedicated member of the Coney Island Seventh-day Adventist Church, where he was known for his prayers, encouragement, and joyful service. Whether offering kind words, lending a helping hand, or lifting his voice in praise, he lived out his faith daily and inspired others to do the same.
To his family and loved ones, he was Papi—a constant source of wisdom, love, and gentle humor. Papi was loyal, dependable, and uplifting. He was a brother in Christ who modeled unwavering faith. To all who knew him, Daniel leaves behind a legacy of generosity, compassion, and steadfast service. Though he will be deeply missed, his family and loved ones take comfort in the promise of Scripture—that “the dead in Christ shall rise first” and that we will one day be reunited when Christ comes again. Until then, Daniel’s memory will continue to live on in the countless lives he touched.

With deep sorrow and regret, we announce the passing of Daniel W. Stephenson, affectionately known as "Papi", a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and faithful servant of the Lord, who awaits the blessed hope of the resurrection, having fallen asleep in Christ on August 29, 2025. He was a man of unwavering faith, always ready with a prayer, kind words, or helping hand. His greatest joy was his family, the Coney Island SDA Church, and his beloved friends. To all those who knew him, he leaves behind a legacy defined by his generosity, loyalty, and service to others.
