Claire Tebbets

Obituary
Claire Tebbets, 44, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, passed away April 21, 2026.
Born in San Francisco, California, Claire was well traveled before making her home in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She graduated from Pomona College in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and earned a Master of Public Health in Reproductive, Adolescent, and Child Health from the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health in 2008.
Claire dedicated her life and career to caring for others and to understanding the communities she served. She valued her time serving with the Peace Corps in Ecuador and volunteering with CASA. She spent nearly seventeen years with Planned Parenthood Federation of America Global. Most recently, she accepted an opportunity with Libera (formerly part of Planned Parenthood Federation of America Global), continuing her work advancing reproductive justice in Latin America and Africa. Her work was grounded in both compassion and rigor - she had an exceptional talent for research and presenting data in ways that helped others see more clearly and act with purpose.
Claire was a rare gift to the world. She cared deeply for her family, friends, co-workers, and even the strangers she met along the way. She filled her home with life—sharing it with dogs, cats, and a bearded dragon—and was a devoted and thoughtful pet parent. She will be remembered for her winning smile, witty sense of humor, boisterous laugh, delicious cooking, and her gentle, steady way of relating to others. She was the best mom and a wonderful spouse.
She is survived by her life partner, Subi Ambrose; stepson, Aksel Ambrose; father, Paul Tebbets (Rose Tebbets); mother, Andrea Tebbets; aunt and uncle, Ruth (Tebbets) and Fred Brousseau; cousin, Izzy (Elizabeth) Brousseau (Adam Morales), and their children, Joaquin and Felix; sisters-in-law, Vinothini Ambrose (Jonathan Baxendell) and Amirthini Keefe (Daniel Keefe), and their children, Jaian and Jasu; and many other relatives and friends who loved her dearly. Preceded in death by her beloved cousin Ben (Benjamin) Brousseau.

Claire's Favorite Places to Eat
Claire found so much joy in sharing meals, whether it was trying something new or returning to a favorite spot with the people she loved. Some of her most-loved places included Khaluna, Gai Noi, Diane’s Place, Red Wagon Pizza Company, Quang Restaurant, Dosa South Indian Grill, The Market at Malcom Yards and The Lowbrow.
If you find yourself at one of these places, we hope it brings a small sense of connection to her - good food, shared company, and the simple moments she cherished most.

Claire was gentle, sunny, warm, and immensely caring. I remember that Claire moved through the word so softly, and with care. But not/never meekly. I remember her as a wonderful and rare combination of quiet strength, of steady joy. I am sad that I hadn’t been in touch with her recently, but reading of her work, and passions, and people she loved has been lovely. It sounds very much like she found her place.
I am so sad that the world and all her people lost her. I wish I had better words.
My fearless public health warrior - I will miss our conversations about health policy and how best to advocate for our CASA kiddos. I will carry your strength and conviction as I continue our fight, knowing you’re in my heart always. Louie and I will miss you forever.

Escrevo em Português para demonstrar como você teve um alcance gigantesco enquanto pessoa e profissional. Obrigado por ter sido tão gentil. Como dizemos em minha cultura, você ancestralizou, ou seja, virou parte da história.
You leave a huge void. I will miss your laughter and your optimism, your love for animals, the kindness with which you always treated everyone, your empathy, and the opportunity to continue learning from you—not only as a professional, but as a person.
