Obituary
With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Cindy, who was born on April 21, 1954 and passed away on October 19, 2026 in Houston, Texas.
Cindy Marie Fleming (née Smith) was born April 21, 1954, in Roseburg, Oregon. After growing up in many different places, she eventually settled in Glendale, Arizona, where she raised her children and built a life centered around family, friendship, and caring for others.
Cindy was creative and resourceful. She built a daycare business out of her home, allowing her to care for other children while always being there for her own. She loved baking, especially her famous no-bakes and chocolate chip cookies, making family-favorite meals like tacos and chicken tenders, and bringing people together through food, love, and the comfort of home.
Cindy was a giver through and through. She was loving, caring, sentimental, and fiercely protective of the people she loved. Her children were her life's work, and she showed up for it all — school, performances, fundraisers, sports, birthdays and everything in between. Her home was always open to her children's friends, no questions asked. She created a home away from home for so many, earning her the name Mama Cindy.
In April 2018, Cindy made the move to Texas to be closer to her family, embarking on a cherished new chapter. After becoming a grandmother, she became known as Grammie, a name that brought her so much love and joy. Because of her big heart, she also became “Grammie” to the children of so many close friends. She treasured her family, loved her people deeply, and found happiness in the simple things — crafting, sunshine, butterflies, beaches, family vacations, and spoiling her grandchildren.
Cindy's life wasn't about perfection. It was about showing up, making room for others, and giving the best she knew how to give. Her love was part of the home she created, the people she cared for, and the memories she leaves behind.
Cindy passed away on October 19, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Sean and Regina Smith, Jesse and Andrea Fleming, and Christy and Aaron Weishapl; her beloved grandchildren, Hudson Weishapl, Logan Fleming, Cooper Weishapl, and Madilynn Joanne Fleming; and her brothers, Dan, Don, Darrel and Rusty Smith.
She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and friend; someone who always made room for one more. Her legacy lives on in the people she loved, the lives she touched, and the family she built.
