Obituary
Charles Elmore Hardin Jr. III, age 72, passed away on October 30, 2024, in Charlotte, NC. Born on July 23, 1952, Charles dedicated much of his life to his career and family, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him. Charles grew up in Charlotte, attending Fairview Elementary, Irwin Junior High, West Charlotte High School.
Raised in Charlotte alongside his siblings, Charles faced early challenges as a young child after his parents separated. They were lovingly raised by Mary "Grandma Gate" Gaither, whose influence shaped his profound dedication to family. Charles excelled academically and could have chose college, however he chose to stay home and be of support to his younger siblings. This commitment characterized his life, as he took on roles that provided for his family and enriched others. His 25-year career at Beatrice Hunt Wesson Foods highlighted his talents, notably as an Assistant Distribution Manager and PCI Coordinator. Afterward, he explored work as a Bank Courier for Bank of America, Sous Chef at Bedder Bedder and Moore, and as a freelance proofreader for College Thesis papers and Children's Books.
In retirement, Charles enjoyed simple pleasures like deep-sea fishing, cooking, and restful days. Although not outwardly religious, his knowledge of the Bible and his relationship with Christ guided his values and interactions. Married to Paulette Brandon in 1974, he fully embraced her children as his own, devoting himself to his role as a father and coach. He shared his love of sports by coaching for Westchester Pop Warner football and the Greater Pineville Athletic League, becoming a beloved presence at his children’s events.
A thoughtful conversationalist and mentor, he kept a regular schedule of checking on friends and family. He would talk with you and share his wisdom and perspective. He cared for and loved his family greatly, especially cherishing the time with his grandchildren. His siblings remained a source of pride and comfort, and they were always a source of pride and peace for him until the very end.
Charles leaves behind his sons, Dwayne Lamar Hardin and Charles Elmore Hardin Jr. IV (Denise); daughter, Terrisha Dwan Hardin; siblings, Thelma Hardin, Blanche Hardin-Waddell, Saundra Hardin-Marion , Margaret Hardin, and Arthur Hardin (Cecilia); grandchildren, Terrisha Robinson, Areyanna / Avviona / Awbriana Hardin (Tiffany Massey), Vosha /Shika /Candice / Trice/ Michele Fallie (Valerie); lifelong Best Friend Richard Harris; and a host of neices, nephews and family.
