Charles Albert Smithers, aged 90, passed away peacefully on 13 August 2025, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, hard work, and generosity. Born on 16 January 1935, in Caulfield North, Charles lived a life defined by his deep love for family and community.
Charles was the cherished husband of Carmel, with whom he shared a remarkable journey of love and companionship. Together, they built a family centered on mutual respect, compassion, and support. As a devoted father, Charles was a guiding light for his child, instilling values that echo through the generations.
Throughout his life, Charles was known for his unwavering commitment to those around him. He worked diligently, embodying the spirit of perseverance and dedication. His hard work was not just confined to his profession but was evident in his everyday interactions and the care he extended to his loved ones.
A generous soul, Charles never hesitated to lend a helping hand, whether it was assisting friends or contributing to local causes. His kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew him, serving as a testament to the power of a benevolent heart.
The funeral service to honor Charles's extraordinary life will be held on 25 August 2025, at Nerang. Family, friends, and all those touched by his remarkable presence are invited to come together to celebrate a life well-lived.

The funeral will be held in Nerang Cemetery on Monday 25th August 2025 at 11am. Unfortunately, due to restrictions, there will not be any live streaming event for the occasion, but there will be a tripod set up for the recording of the funeral. Afterwards, we invite you to attend for refreshments. As we understand that not everyone will be able to attend the funeral, we will also be also be arranging a tribute to my father's life by arranging a get together at the next race day at Caulfield Racecourse.
We also welcome you to visit and leave your messages on our memory wall, similar to having a memorial book at the funeral.

After leaving school he joined the Rural Bank of NSW --and amongst other things represented them in a Combined Banks Competition.
He left the bank tp join St george Building Society when they started up in opposition to banks.
after working there for many years he left and purchased a Dry Cleaning shop which also had a branch on Manly wharf;
He sold this business for a good profit and purchased a Commercial Dry Cleaning factory and after a few years sold it and purchased aProduce Store supplying to the horse industry on the northern beaches.
He lived a varied and interesting life ---time now to take it easy
