Obituary
Carole was born in Houston, Texas. She was the second of three children to the union of Allen Jeter, Sr. and Thelma Punch Rhodes.
Her educational journey began in the Houston Public Schools. She attended Crawford Elementary School and graduated from Phillis Wheatley High School in 1953. She received her BS Degree from Prairie View A&M University in 1956 and MS from Oneonta State University, Oneonta, New York in 1963.
After graduating from Prairie View, she worked as assistant secretary in the School of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office as well as secretary in the Agricultural Department. After leaving Prairie View, she returned to Houston to teach at Carver Elementary, Aldine District. She married Edward C. Jones and moved to Utica, New York and Manassas, Virginia.
She taught school in New York for a number of years and changed professions into the corporate world at IBM. She then joined the legal arena as a legal secretary and worked in the private industry. She always had a love of typing; began transcribing legal tapes and developed her own business for a few years.
She enjoyed ceramics, needlepoint and crocheting.
As a child, she grew up in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Reverend H. O. Scott, Pastor. Upon her return from Virginia in February 2001, as a retiree, she became a member of Mt. Pilgrim. One of the greatest joys in her life was coming to Mt. Pilgrim. She enjoyed going to Bible Study. She enjoyed learning and being taught at Mt. Pilgrim, where she grew spiritually more than any time in her life. She enjoyed working for her church in any capacity. A few of the participating areas were Sunday Church School, weekly bulletins, programs for various organizations, the Annual Fellowship Banquet, the Pastor’s Appreciation Committee, Pioneers for Change and the live recording with A. C. Cooper Ministries.
Carole was preceded in death by her father, mother, sister and brother. Her love is remembered by her children Angela DeHart of Viginia and Thomas Jones of Houston; two nieces, Rene Mobley of Houston and Savannah (Gregory) Taylor of San Bernadino, California; two great nieces, Jolan and Jene; nephew, John Paul Jeter; cousins: Rosa (Sam) Fuller, Archie (Juanez) Cooper, Marvin (Cheryl) Griffin, Dr. Ronald Punch, Gerry (Carl) Tippen of Corpus Christi, Beverly (Phil) Devers and Purnell Steen of Denver and other relatives and friends.
