I may not know you in person, Captain, but I stand at attention. I stand in honor of your courage, your sacrifice, and your unwavering service. Thank you for wearing the uniform with pride, for defending this nation even when it didn’t always defend you.
Captain sir, I owe you more than gratitude I owe you an apology. On behalf of our country, I say sorry. Sorry for the betrayal of leadership that allowed a monster like Boko Haram to grow. Sorry that you had to fight a war born not of necessity, but of greed, negligence, and selfish ambition.
And yet, you stood. You fought. You didn’t flinch. You gave everything.
Salute to you, sir. Sojourn on, warrior. Your legacy marches on in every heart that still believes in duty, in honor, in Nigeria.
To his wonderful family: be proud. I say, be proud. He did not die a coward. He died a soldier. He died a patriot. He died a hero. His name will not be forgotten.

Tribute to a dear friend Capt. Abiye Peters

Your memory lives on, dear friend,
A shining star that brightened our days, in Niger Delta University and also In the halls of Nigeria Defence Academy,
We shared laughter, tears, and noble ways.

Your passion for learning, your heart so bright, Inspired us all, a beacon in the night,
Your dreams of serving, protecting our land,
Were cut short by senseless, violent hand.

Boko Haram's evil grasp could not define the impact you made, the love you left behind,
In our hearts, your memory stays, a testament to your courage, your ways.

Though your time with us was far too brief,
Your legacy lives on, a lasting relief,
May your family find solace in their grief,
And may your memory inspire us to strive for peace.

Rest in peace, dear friend, may your soul find peace,
Your memory will forever release a wave of hope, a tide of love,
In the hearts of those who knew you from above. 😢😭😭😭😭

Abiye, I just spoke with you on your deployment at the mission field and you said all is well for now. So what happened? I heard of your sudden demise at an attack at your location. Abiye, you're too young to die like this. I have spoken with my sister, Waite, your mum and your dad, they're heart broken but we can't query God. You've paid the Supreme price for your country may the Lord have mercy on your soul and your beloved family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. My sincere condolences to the family and well-wishers of Late Capt. A.D. Peters. I am Philip Alaowei Eferu aka Efex. myself and Late Capt. A.D. Peters has known each other since the 1990's during our junior class in Nigerian Military School, Zaria. Knowing that our parents lived in the same area made our friendship even easier cos I would visit during holidays and if I didn't, he would come to me. My arty-man anytime, life of the party, yet a fine gentleman officer of the Nigerian Army. "Spider" among other nicknames was the name that best describes him in his slick lay up moves each time he attacked the rim for a two points shot on the basketball court. Yes, we both went to play basketball during school and holidays, we played pool (snooker) sometimes as gentle men would. Capt. AD Peters as jolly as he was is fearless and one of most intentional and optimistic person I'd met.

We have always maintained good contact. Even the unrest at the north east where he was located for duty did not stop us. He was very particular about growth with family, and the last time we spoke on the phone ( barely a month before his demise), he went on to ask me when I am getting married and I told him "there is a woman but you will get to see her physically to speak to her". Shooting up my hopes, as he had just told me he is at the front line of battle. We talked a bit over 30 mins and we both laughed most of the time not minding the prevailing circumstances of his presence at the front line or maybe ignoring it for the time being. For a soldier, it is common to show no fear as this positive attitude is an advantage to troops' morale. We kept the vibe and that was the last communication between us.

Capt. A.D Peters (aka Spider), Your priceless contribution to the peace of our nation Nigeria will not be forgotten in a hurry. God be with you till we meet again.

Rest well my friend who became a brother.

Dear Family of Captain Abiye

Please accept my deepest condolences on the tragic loss of your beloved son. Though I did not have the privilege of knowing him personally, I was deeply moved by his story and the ultimate sacrifice he made in the battle against Boko Haram in North East Nigeria.

Your loved one was a true hero—his courage and commitment to protecting our nation will never be forgotten. His selfless service stands as an inspiration to us all, and the debt we owe him can never be repaid.

May you find comfort in knowing that his bravery is honored and remembered by many, even by those of us who never met him. My thoughts and prayers are with your family during this difficult time.

Dear Captain Abiye Peters
I met you in Amassoma in 2010 through your cousin Charles Douglas. We bonded and discussed on several issues. I noticed your humility and accommodating lifestyle. Who you were was never a yardstick in accommodating others. You related with your cousin's friends as if they were your friends. You had a listen ear and never failed to give your one percent when needed.
Death is inevitable, it will come to every motal one day, but may God show us mercy even in death. May your soul find peace with your maker.
Adieu! Adieu!! Adieu!!!

Death will come one day to me;
Jesus, cast me not from thee:
dying let me still abide
in thy heart and wounded side.

"O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?" Ah, Abiye! Heaven gained not only a good soldier, but a beautiful soul.

The news of your passing came as a shock to us all! But to me in particular, there's a sense of burden that I feel. I was about to fly from Lagos to London in Sept 2013 when you insisted I pass the night at your family home. On the morning of my flight, you knelt before me and said, "Adams, I believe so much in the grace of God upon you. I have a strong feeling that if you pray for me, this time I will make the selection list for the Army DSS (short service commission)". My heart skipped for such a conviction. Knowing everything about your previous attempts, I prayed from my heart that morning. I was elated with so much joy when you were eventually commissioned. But if only I had a crystal ball to read the future, that was a prayer I would never had made :(

There are things only God have answers to - this is one of such!

The fact that you always sought my opinion is humbling. Not long ago we discussed your promotion exams to Major, and I was cheering for you as the future COAS - a dream cut short!

I remember how you ensured, via your colleagues, that we had adequate security including gun-trucks and soldiers when I came down to bury my late mum just some months ago. But sadly, it is yours we talk about today.

Your legacy of kindness and your genuine love for people will forever inspire many.

In perpetuum, frater, ave atque vale,
Rest peacefully, dear friend and brother!

SADLY IN MEMORY: NOT JUST A BROTHER-IN-LAW

April 6, 2025, will forever be etched in our memories as a heartbreaking day. It began with an unsettling morning when your wife reached out, worried that she hadn't heard from you as she normally would. Despite repeated calls, there was only silence.

As we frantically searched online for any news, a chilling report emerged by midday: a platoon in Maiduguri had been attacked, and a captain had "paid the ultimate price." Given your wife's knowledge of your deployment, our hearts sank.

The official confirmation that followed shattered our hopes. We're still grappling with the loss, made even more poignant by the fact that you never got to meet your youngest child, who's just under six months old. Camil and Arthur miss their video calls with you.

You were more than just a brother-in-law; you were a pillar of strength and love for your family. Your selflessness and willingness to be vulnerable, even with me, made you a true brother. In this darkness, we cling to our faith, trusting God to guide us through.

Until we meet again on the resurrection morning.

Did you know that you were living us?
It hurts deep down knowing that we will never see you again.
You were a great dad to our son Arnold Peters and to the rest of his siblings, an amazing husband to your lovely wife, a brave son to your parents and a big bro to your only sister.
Mummy is grieving inside, daddy is lost and Arnold acts like he is fine but we all know its his own way of grieving.
You were a light in every dark room and your laughter till this moment is ringing in my ears.
Please watch over everyone you have left behind.
I promise to raise our boy and make you proud even in your absence.

Today, we remember and honour a friend, a brother, and a classmate—Abiye Peters—a true patriot who laid down his life in service to our nation.

Abiye was more than just a soldier. In university, he was a light among us—intelligent, kind-hearted, full of life and ambition. He carried himself with grace and humility, always willing to help, always ready to lead. From the lecture halls to the quiet moments between classes, Abiye left an impression that none of us will ever forget.

His decision to serve in the army was no surprise—it was a reflection of who he was: courageous, selfless, and deeply committed to something greater than himself. He chose to protect others, to defend the values we often take for granted, and ultimately paid the ultimate price for it.

It’s hard to put into words the weight of this loss. But even in our grief, we find pride. Pride that we knew him. Pride that we called him friend. Pride that he wore the uniform with honour.

Abiye, your memory lives on in the lives you touched and in the hearts of all who knew you. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten, and your legacy will continue to inspire us all.

Rest in peace, soldier. You fought the good fight.
We salute you.

General Spider, as I usually call you.
You were such a kind hearted fellow. You stood as a brother and friend to those around around you.
You were indeed a gallant officer even unto defense of our beloved country.
You will also be remembered.

It was heartbreaking to hear of Abiye's passing. I remember how passionate he was about the military and his dream of rejoining the officer cadre in signals intelligence, the elation of hearing his exploits and progress in life. He will forever be missed by those who remember.

Spider, as i always call you. When i come to the realization that i can neither see you nor interact with you anymore, it breaks my heart.

Your generousity and amiable lifestyle can not be comparable.

You chose the life of a warrior, and i respect you for your braveness.

Indeed, i will miss you always.

May your soul rest peacefully in the bossom of Abraham.

Amen!
