Bruce Winston Fowler

A man's body may grow old, but inside his spirit can still be as young and as restless as ever. And him -  in his day, he had more spirit than twenty men.

Bruce Winston Fowler was a caring husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He left this world suddenly on May 26th, 2024 at age 72.

Bruce was born on February 13, 1952 and raised by his loving parents George and Isabel Fowler in Charleston, WV.  After graduating from George Washington High School in 1970, Bruce attended Fairmont State College and received his bachelors degree in Art and History.

Bruce was a talented artist and worked as a junior high school art teacher.  Bruce spent the majority of his career working as a control valve salesman for various companies serving the chemical industry in the tri-state area.

After retirement, Bruce enjoyed traveling, attending West Virginia Mountaineer games with his family, and riding his Harley Davidson.

Bruce was preceded in death by his father, George Fowler; his mother, Isabel Fowler; and his sister Jean Fowler.  He is survived by his wife, Margie; a daughter, Vanessa Fowler; a stepson, Craig Lytton (Rona), a stepdaughter Kara Stevens (Brian); four grandchildren: Brynn Stevens, Cade Lytton, Haden Stevens, and Madeline Lytton, and his cat, Roscoe..

A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm on June 14th 2024 at Sunset Memorial Park, 4301 MacCorkle Avenue SW South Charleston, WV 25309.

Bruce and I went to school together from grade school through high school and then at Fairmont and WVU. After college we formed Mountain Screenprint and silkscreened T-shirts with Bruce’s art and other local artists at craft show and bluegrass festivals throughout WV and surrounding states. After I moved from WV out west, we stayed in touch and talked as recently as earlier this year. His sudden departure was a shock and the world lost a caring person with a wonderful sense of humor. He will be missed. Sincere condolences to his family.

Worked for awhile at the Harley shop in South Charleston. I enjoyed working with him and Bill Hoffman who left us years earlier. He went to get a motorcycle club started that I’m sure Bruce will be a member again like he was in life. Two better friends you couldn’t ask for. I will join the club in the next life even if I didn’t in this one. Love you brothers.

I knew Bruce through church. grade school, Jr. High and High School. We reconnected when he returned from Fairmont State to Charleston. He was a wonderful and genuine soul. He was also very fair-minded, with a good sense of humor and, he took the side of the underdog, always rejecting arrogant people and bullies. I had not been fortunate enough to have visited with Bruce for years, but that happens with old friends-all too often into adulthood - as routinely, we follow separate lives. I offer my sincere condolences to all his surviving family members and close friends.

We were so sorry to hear of Bruce’s sudden passing. Words can never soothe the ache in our soul that is left when a dear one departs, but please know all of you are near and dear to us. We will miss Bruce, but know each of you is a living testament to the kind of man he was.
