Life is a beautiful memory, love is a silent grief.

Obituary

Betty Jean Gordon-Maldonado, born March 31, 1954, in Hemingway, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2026, at Highland Nursing Home. She was 72 years old. Betty lived her life with strength, grace, and a spirit that was unmistakably her own. She made her home at 232-17 118th Ave in Cambria Heights, New York, and throughout her life she carried herself with confidence and purpose.

She was the daughter of Mack Gordon and Helen Gordon, and the love and values she carried from her beginnings stayed with her always. Betty was a proud graduate of Clara Barton High School and went on to attend Alliance University. She also pursued her faith and calling with dedication, receiving her Evangelist certification from the International Bible College, her Chaplain license certification from World Life Ministries, and a Master of Theology from CMCA. These accomplishments reflected not only her commitment to learning, but also her deep devotion to God and to serving others.

Betty retired after a career as a NYC correctional officer, a role that spoke to her strength and steady presence. Those who knew her understood that she was a woman who did things her way. She was strong, determined, and never easily moved from her own convictions. At the same time, she was kind and helpful to people in need, and she had a generous heart for those around her. Her smile and her voice had a way of lighting up a room, and she left people feeling her warmth wherever she went.

Family was an important part of Betty’s life. She was the beloved wife of the late Luis Maldonado and a loving mother to Hope Fullerton, Arthe Gordon, Kyal Gordon, Archem Gordon, Paul Gordon, and Hope Hall. Betty was also a cherished grandmother to Skylar Gordon, Kaidair Gordon, Jamiya Gordon, and Stanley Jr. Gordon. Betty found joy in spending time with her grandchildren, and those moments meant a great deal to her. Her love for them was clear in the time she gave and the happiness she shared.

Betty was a Christian who loved the Lord, and her faith was a meaningful part of who she was. She carried that faith with her in both her words and her actions, and it helped shape the way she lived her life. She also loved singing, and her voice was one of the many ways she brought joy to others. Whether through song, conversation, or simply her presence, Betty had a gift for making people feel seen and uplifted.

She will be remembered for the strength she showed, the kindness she offered, and the light she brought into the lives of others. Betty Jean Gordon-Maldonado lived fully and faithfully, and her memory will remain a blessing to her family and all who knew and loved her. No public memorial services will be held. The family ask for prayers during this time of mourning.
