The Ghanaian one-week observation is a traditional memorial gathering held roughly seven days after a person's death to formally announce the passing, share final funeral arrangements, and receive community support.

A Perspective on Life and Death
Ecclesiastes 7:1 remarks that "the day of death is better than the day of one’s birth,"
as it reflects on the reputation, wisdom, and eternal legacy a person leaves behind at the end of their earthly journey.
Our beloved Ben, affectionately known as "Big Ben," was truly a force to be reckoned with. He had a big appetite for life—yes, he certainly loved his food—but far beyond that, Ben possessed an extraordinary passion for living life to the fullest. He embraced every moment with energy, enthusiasm, and a zest for life that was infectious.
His warmth, vibrant spirit, and unwavering love for life inspired everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Ben's legacy is one of joy, laughter, and living wholeheartedly, and he will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.

17 June 2026 Dash 4 July 2026 I want you all to remember this date!
I read of a man who stood to speak
And now only those who loved them
For it matters not how much we own,
So, when your eulogy is being read
At the University College hospital, We spoke about GOD, he told me his father had loads of books about God, and he and his dad would explore the teachings in the books. Ben said his dad said, “I have read all these books about this Jesus and I never found him” my response was you cannot find Christ in a book, I could see he wanted to debate, so I asked him did you read any of those books? Have you read the bible?
And you know Ben, he stuttered no, no, but, but and I responded we cannot have this conversation based on things someone else has told you, as you have never read any of the books. Surprisingly, enough he backed down and said good argument.
He spoke about going to church with Jenny, and people all raising their has up, he said he though it was a cult. I asked him if he raised his hands, he said no, he did not want to be pulled into the cult. We both laughed.
Now! remember this date – 17 June dash 4 July 2026
Thursday 4th June 2026 @ 23:04 telephone call with Ben
I told him I was uncomfortable with something, something that I could not ignore that was not sitting right with me, told him all his friends were born or raised in the church, they knew who Jesus Christ was, even if they did not go to church, but in their seasons of darkness they knew who’s name to call out to. I asked Ben who he had been calling out to? He said Jenny, we both burst out laughing.
I asked him where do you think you go when you die? He said where do you think you go, I said Heaven, he responded when you die your dead init? I asked him how he felt and he ask me how I felt, I told him the though of just being dead, lying in the ground cold terrifies me.
Silence,
I then said what if………….. what if all this Jesus and GOD stuff was real! What if when you die, you realise it was all true, all real and all it would have cost you was to say the sinner prayer, repent and accept Jesus Christ as you lord and Saviour, what then.?
Silence,
I guess it’s like going to a really exclusive club, if your name is not on the list you’re not getting in, and no one can vouch for you at the door.
Silence,
think about all the people you know who have done terrible things and are still doing terrible things, the person you would consider almost evil, the person you would think would be going to hell!
Silence,
so imagine (as you don’t believe) your waiting to go to hell, and their time has passed and you see them, but they don’t come towards you, but go to the stairway to heaven, and as your calling them, they turn around and say, I accepted Jesus as my Lord and saviour, I’m born again, all my shit was forgiven, sorry mate!
Silence
Ben asked me where the sinner’s prayer in the bible was, what chapter and verse. I told him it was not a chapter and verse in the bible but asked if he would like to do it. I told him about my friend Amanda, she is a 4-star general prayer warrior, we both came to see him in the 17 June 2026.
Philippians 1:21 where the apostle Paul wrote, "For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain," this truth describes a life so surrendered to faith that death is not seen as a loss, but as an eternal promotion.
17 June 2026 Dash 4 July 2026
He was born again!
29th June 2026 Ben was baptised, and thanked Jesus for his life and his eternal life.
4th July 2026 (Independence Day) the day Ben transitioned fully to Christ.
17 June 2026 Dash 4 July 2026 that is :
2 weeks 3 days, or 408 hours, or (1,468,800) one million four hundred sixty-eight thousand eight hundred seconds
So our brother died in Christ, "To die with Christ" means to identify with him in his death and resurrection, and to put to death the sin that remains in us. To endure means to keep doing that to the very end. For The promise of life isn't to those who start the Christian race, but to those who finish it!
so 17 June dash 4th July 2026, that equates to; 2 weeks 3 days, or 17 days, or 408 hours or 24,480 minutes, or 1,468,800 seconds ((1,468,800) one million four hundred sixty-eight thousand eight hundred seconds).

Prayer of Thanksgiving and Hope for Ben
Heavenly Father,
Today, we come before You with grateful hearts, thanking You for the life of our beloved Ben, affectionately known as "Big Ben." We thank You for the gift he was to us all—for his laughter, his kindness, his strength, and the joy he brought into our lives. Thank You for the many memories we shared with him and for the way he brought people together in friendship, love, and fellowship.
Lord, we thank You for gathering us here today. In Your wisdom and love, You have brought family, friends, and loved ones together to celebrate Ben's life and to support one another. May this unity remind us of the precious bond we share and of Your presence among us.
Holy Spirit, we ask that You continue to guide us, strengthen us, and comfort us in the days ahead. When we feel the weight of missing Ben, help us to remember that we do not grieve without hope. Ben died in Christ, and through Christ's promises, we know that he has entered into eternal life. May that assurance bring peace to our hearts and joy to our souls.
Lord, Ben was a fighter in every sense of the word. As an amateur boxer, he knew what it meant to stand firm, to get back up after being knocked down, and to keep going when the battle was tough. How fitting it was that he faced his illness with that same courage and determination. No matter how much it tried to take him down, he fought with dignity, strength, and faith. And in the end, through Christ, he won the ultimate victory.
Father, in the name of Jesus, we pray for all who are here today. Just as Ben persevered through his battles, help each one of us to overcome the challenges and struggles we face in our own lives. Give us courage when we are afraid, strength when we are weary, faith when we are uncertain, and hope when the road ahead seems difficult.
Help us to live as Ben lived—with enthusiasm, passion, and a wholehearted appetite for life. May his example inspire us to cherish each day, love one another deeply, and place our trust in You.
We thank You, Lord, for Ben's life, for his legacy, and for the promise that one day, through Christ, we will meet again.
In the precious and mighty name of Jesus, we pray.
Amen.

Our journey began when we were just six years old on the North Rd estate. Our parents were very close friends, creating a bond between our families that laid the foundation for everything to come. Growing up alongside Ben, we shared every milestone, transition, and memory from childhood into adulthood. Over the years, we came to realise a profound truth, blood is not the only thing that defines family. The loyalty, love, and connection we shared made him as much a part of my family as anyone born into it.
Ben was a constant, unshakable presence in our lives. He never missed a single event. Whether it was a milestone for me, a celebration for one of my brothers, or a special moment for my nieces, Ben made it his mission to be there always.
The love he brought into our home extended deeply to my late father, whom Ben affectionately and respectfully named "the great Mr Mac." My dad loved Ben dearly, and Ben returned that affection with absolute respect and genuine love. Knowing they are both gone now brings a heavy sorrow, but also a small comfort in imagining them reunited.
Big Ben leaves behind a void that can never be filled, but he also leaves a legacy of pure loyalty, laughter, and brotherhood.
When illness struck, Ben faced his battle with cancer with a bravery that left me in absolute awe. I deeply admire his strength. The way he fought to the very end encourages me daily as I navigate my own life journey. Even when his body was weak, his spirit remained undefeated.
The day before he passed, I was privileged to be by his side. When it was time for me to leave, he kissed, hugged me tight and told me he loved me. Looking back, I think he knew he was coming to the end. I am so profoundly grateful I was able to spend those last moments with him. I will cherish that final embrace and those last words for the rest of my days.
Da yie (Rest in peace), my brother. You will live in my heart forever.🙏🏾❤️😭

On the eve of 31 Dec 2019, I attended the polo beach club. It was packed - everyone out ready to party. As I strolled around I found a spot near the pool. My friend turns to me and says “look who’s in the pool” when I turn to look. I see a big guy in an inflatable ring 😂😂😂. He starts waving - it’s Ben. The only one in the Pool like a beach whale! Of course I was cussing him (can’t repeat it here BBBW!!) because that’s how we do!
He had time time of his life that night 😂

Though our paths crossed only a handful of times over the years, reconnecting was always effortless. I was amazed by his memory and ability to recall the little details.
The last time I saw him, it was difficult to see how illness had stripped away his physical build, but talking to him it was clear it never touched his heart or his humility. He was positive and optimistic, and that spirit gave him more precious years with the people he loved and cared for.
May the cherished memories carry them through. 🫶🏾🙏🏾
You celebrate every birthday with me , whethter i wanted to or not!
you where born and lived one way, but you died and new person when you gave your live to christ and got baptized, you won in The end!
I will forever miss you Dee Dee

I'm so sorry!
Please accept my condolences.
We can take some solace in that he is at peace now!
He fought and struggled hard to give us ALL another day - to share his being - each day he did and I will be forever greatful for that!
I pray for strength for you at this beyond difficult time!

Ben was one of the bravest Men I knew, to face such an inevitable diagnosis with the courage and humility that he showed.
He stood stead fast in his predicament and never complained once to me.
His love for life his wife and “little Bubba” (his daughter ) always came first.
When I last saw him, he reminisced about his beloved Arsenal wining the title his trip to Ghana with his family…both an incredible experience.
He is so blessed with strong a support system which really shows how much people love and respect him….what a tremendous loss to us all his laughter his jokes his story telling.
THE MIND IS STRONGER THAN THE BODY
BEN IS ONE OF THE REAL ONES
May his soul rest in perfect peace 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
This is not a Eulogy it’s just my reaction to this terrible news
These are some videos of when he got married in ghana I hope you enjoy them as well etc
He always loved a good chat especially over a nice ‘bit of munch’. For almost 20 yrs we would meet every couple of months or so in London for a nice lunch and discuss/debate whatever topic was on his mind.
Very much missing my oldest friend, but concreting on 47 yrs of memories that still make me laugh and smile🙏🏼

Whenever Ben saw me, he’d always say, “I was with Dean Kelly the other day…before shouting my surname in his loud voice and asking if I’d spoken to this person or that person from North Road. He knew some of them used to come to my gigs. We’d end up chatting for ages, reminiscing about our childhood and the people we grew up with.
Seeing Ben’s size in this photo also reminded me of how he used to tell everyone he was my cousin. That’s what many of us Ghanaians did back then, and still do today. On my side of the estate, Ben’s classmates would ask me, “Is Big Ben your cousin?” I’d proudly say, “Yes,” with my chest puffed out.
Ben always looked out for me and my siblings. He was loyal, protective, and someone you could always count on. I loved our Arsenal conversations too. He was a very intelligent man, and this new football season won’t be the same without him.
These words I never imagined I would say so soon in my life
Rest easy, my brother. You’ll always be remembered and deeply missed. 💔😢
Love Amanda ❤️🙏🏾

RIP Big Ben
Oh fucking hell! Oh my gosh! That's put me in tears! Oh my my! God bless him. 🙏🏻
I wish I got to tell him how much I adored him! He has gone too bloody soon. He didn't deserve that! He was a big man but such a softy and I always got on so so well with him all my life! I am truly truly sad he isn't here anymore. I feel for his family so so much.
Oh gosh I am devastated. Love ya Ben! U was a darling friend and I will miss u big man! ❤️
Are u gonna be OK?? U was with him thru it all and that's the best respect u could give him. U truly truly are the very best and a massively great friend to us both! Love you and send u the biggest of hugs ever. Ben would have loved u too always know that! Be strong friend! 💙

From my childhood, he played a huge role in my life and in the lives of my brothers. We laughed together, played together, and created memories that I will cherish forever. He taught me how to box, encouraged me to be confident, and even bought me my first Manchester United jersey. That simple gift sparked a lifelong love for Manchester United, and every time I support my team, I will think of him.
I always called him Mr. Thanking Man because gratitude was part of who he was. He had a generous heart and quietly helped so many people without expecting anything in return. Behind the scenes, he stood by me during some of the most difficult moments of my life. When others doubted me, Uncle Ben believed in me. His faith in me gave me strength to keep moving forward.
Without Uncle Ben, my father would never have made it to the United Kingdom. His love and sacrifices changed the course of our family’s life in ways that words can never fully express. His kindness opened doors and created opportunities that will continue to bless generations.
When I finally came to the UK, Uncle Ben couldn’t wait to see me. He was so excited and welcomed me with open arms. He called often just to check that I was doing well, visited me, and every time we met, the atmosphere was filled with love, laughter, and positive energy. He always wanted to make sure I was okay. That was simply who he was—he cared deeply about the people he loved.
What makes saying goodbye even harder is that in his final days, he was full of life, happiness, and hope. We shared wonderful conversations, laughed together, and reflected on beautiful memories. I never imagined that those moments would become some of the last memories I would have with him. I will treasure them forever.
Writing this tribute has been one of the hardest things I have ever done because how do you put into words the life of someone who meant so much? How do you describe a man who loved so deeply and so unconditionally? Uncle Ben was my daddy, my best friend, my mentor, and my hero. His love shaped the person I am today.
Although our hearts are broken, we thank God for the gift of his life. His legacy is not only in what he achieved but in the lives he touched, the love he gave so freely, and the values he instilled in all of us. His kindness, wisdom, strength, and generosity will never be forgotten.
Uncle Ben, thank you for believing in me, loving me, guiding me, and always being there for me. Thank you for every sacrifice you made, every word of encouragement, every smile, every phone call, and every embrace. I will carry your lessons and your love with me for the rest of my life.
You may be gone from our sight, but you will never be gone from our hearts. Your love will continue to guide us, your memories will continue to comfort us, and your legacy will continue to inspire us.
Rest peacefully, Uncle Ben.
You were deeply loved, and you will be deeply missed.
Until we meet again, may God hold you in His eternal peace.
