António Joaquim Telleria Teixeira

Born: 8th May 1941

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of António Joaquim Telleria Teixeira, who passed away peacefully at the age of 83. Born and raised in Lisbon, Portugal, António was a man of boundless generosity, endless kindness, and unyielding tenacity in the face of life's challenges.

António was a loving husband to his cherished wife, Marguerite, an adored father to his five children, Pedro, Nuno, Vasco, Ana and Inês, and beloved grandfather to Tomás, Maria, Vasco, Jennifer, Bernardo, Catherine and Martim. His family was his pride and joy and he will be deeply missed. He was known for his good sense of humor and his captivating storytelling abilities, which brightened the days of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A man of many passions, António had a particularly love for classic cars, especially MGs. He spent countless hours restoring and racing them, proudly participating in the ACP Classic Car Club and MG Club for many years. He played a pivotal role in setting up the Portuguese Etching Association, as part of his love for the fine arts. His adventures and travels took him to countless destinations around the globe, where he enjoyed the diverse cultures and experiences that life had to offer.

António's professional life was equally remarkable. He dedicated his career to improving access to healthcare for patients across Portugal. He was a key figure in establishing and leading several pharmaceutical companies in Portugal, including B. Braun Medical, Fresenius-Kabi, and Generis. His leadership extended to the formation of APORMED and APOGEN, where his visionary guidance left a lasting impact.

Despite the many adversities he faced throughout his life, António's spirit remained undaunted. He was a charismatic leader and a beacon of resilience, tirelessly working to make the world a better place for others.

The funeral service to honour António's remarkable life will be held at the Crematório de Albufeira, located at Caminho dos Brejos, 8200-316 Albufeira, Portugal, on 24 September 2024 at 15:00. The service will be held for close family and friends.

António Joaquim Telleria Teixeira's legacy of kindness, dedication, and leadership will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

On behalf of Medicines for Europe (the former EGA), we would like to express our deepest sympathy to the family on Antonio's passing. We always appreciated very close working relationship between the European Generic medicines Association and ÀPOGEN on many joint projects improving access to generic medicines for patients. We will keep with us memories of many joint conferences in Portugal, where we were privileged to feel Antonio's great hospitality and commitment. Thank you for all this! Dear Family Teixeira,

It is with great sadness and surprise that I learned about the passing of Antonio, whom I had the privilege and pleasure to get to know first as a great professional and then as the father of his two wonderful daughters Ana and Ines.

Dear Antonio,
Thank you for having been the great man you were. Your lovely daughters will continue to represent your values, your engagement and your love of life. I know that you will always have a place in our heart and that you will stay very close to your loved ones and that you will be with them at every step of their life.
I have very fond memories of our last meeting together with Marguerite in the Algarve at the very end of the travel ban to Portugal during Covid. It was very special as we revisited our common souvenirs.
It is with great pleasure that I look again at our WhatsApp feed, which very often made me laugh and smile.
Rest in peace, dear Antonio.

Much love to the entire family and a lot of strength to Marguerite!

It was our last time when we visited you and Marguerita in the Algarve in spring 2022. We were so happy to meet again, happy to see that you found your place again in the south of Portugal, where you always felt at home. Antonio, you will always remain in our memory as a charming, charismatic man, a gentleman in every way. It was a privilege to know you and your family, to be friends with your daughters Your spirit will stay with us forever! Beata and Ruud

Dear family Teixeira,

I am sorry that it has taken some time to write to you but this is the first day I (Michael) feel better from an infection being treated with antibiotics.

It was with great sadness that we heard about the loss of dear António and we have thought a lot about it. The last time we had a joyful time together was at Chrissy´s in Lagoa in the summer of 2023 and we tried to meet up in June this year but the conditions were not the best so unfortunately we did not see him anymore. We had hoped to be able to join in the funeral, which unfortunately was not possible as we’ll not arrive in Portugal until Oct 2.

We met the first time in Benagil in July 1992, when we stayed in the same row of houses above the beach. There was an immediate and great contact with António and Marguerite and we enjoyed many nice moments together. Small excursions, dinners at nice local restaurants such as Bon-Bon and Chrissy´s and just going to the beach. Helena and Sophie were so happy to find Portuguese friends in Ana and Iñez.

António and I both worked as CEO´s in companies in the med tech business and had a lot in common to discuss. He was very knowledgeable about the regulatory situation from his position as head of the Portuguese association.

Antonio was always young at heart and a great entertainer with a wide register of funny stories. The kids loved and respected him. We played tennis at Rocha Brava together kids and parents – at one time the tennis ball landed in the top of a palm tree. Who would climb up several meters in a palm tree in all white tennis gear to happily return with the tennis ball – António of course.

We had an electric problem in our one hundred year old house in Benagil – the power was so low that we had to turn off all lights when cooking to avoid a broken fuse. According to local expertise nothing could be done about that but António promptly helped us to navigate the bureaucracy to modernize our house – he was always helpful and knowledgeable.

We lost contact for several years until our kids organized a cheerful reunion in Carvoeiro during the pandemic. After that we tried to meet up every time we visited the Algarve.
It is with great sadness that we realize that we won’t see António anymore.

Dear Marguerite, Ana, and Ines , we send our deepest condolences on the sad news of the passing of Antonio.

All of us who had the pleasure of knowing Antonio held him in great respect and affection. We all saw how deeply devoted he was to his family, his friends, and his work.

Antonio was the perfect gentleman—always ready to help others, full of wonderful stories and humor. He always looked the part as well, with his impeccable sense of style and his love for the MG.

I will never forget the warmth and hospitality he showed when I visited Portugal for EGA, and how committed he was to promoting healthcare and access in both Portugal and Europe. Personally, I will always cherish the memories of our time together during the EGA -APOGEN days, and how we worked side by side in Portugal and across Europe. I have sent a photograph from those early days.

Antonio and you, Marguerite, were such wonderful company, true examples of a loving couple, and you made Alex and me feel like family whenever we met.

Antonio was not just a colleague, but also a friend and a mentor. May his memory live on among us all.

With heartfelt sympathy,

Greg and Alex

Besos,

The first time I met Tio António I was welcomed at his home in Bicuda, down the road from ours - it felt like family from day 1. He so proudly shared his passion for cars, led an endearing tour of the house sharing about family art, and then back to the process of recovering his MG with Ines.
A kind man; acutely attentive of everyone's wellbeing and involving others in the moment. It was never just about him. Rich in stories lived and lessons shared, blessed with humour and gentleness... A sweet loving gentleman. How he loved wholeheartedly and felt pride in his children! Missing his voice and priceless stories of a life well-lived!
My love, and a tight hug, to the family.
