Dr. King was an integral part of our Ag Leadership program. Everything I needed to know about the poultry industry I learned from her, which is a segment of agriculture I knew little about. Her intellect, insights and kindness always made chatting with her a pleasure. As a black woman working in agriculture she broke barriers and helped us all when we were uncomfortable in our own skin.

Oh Annie, you are very much missed. I miss our funny conversations, miss having you sneak a piece of candy from our office every so often and miss hearing you walk down the hall. I really enjoyed working with you through these years and thank you for always looking out for the students. You were a positive light in this world. God bless.

Annie was a delightful colleague in so many ways - in meetings whether by schedule or by chance hallway chats. She cared deeply about students and worked to make them feel like champions & leaders. Her humorous take on issues either directly or as a sidebar were infectious fun and served to bring temperatures down! I will miss her chuckle and wide smile.

I have known Dr. King since 2016. As a transfer student to UCD, I didn't have much knowledge and thought myself behind students that had started at a 4-year college. Dr. King not only made me feel welcome in the lab, but she is also the professor that gave me a passion for research and working with poultry. After my undergraduate graduation, I took a gap year working in a nearby industry. Despite having left the university, we kept in touch, and she provided much needed life advice while working. I rejoined her lab as a MSc student in 2019, where I felt at home amongst my lab mates. While I struggled with returning to academia, Dr. King was always supportive and helped me through some of the roughest of times. Her support and advice may have not always been appreciated but has always been helpful in developing me into the budding scientist that I am today. As her remaining PhD student, we spent a lot of time together – discussing research and often losing track of time discussing life and family. Dr. King will always hold a special place in my heart, mind and career – and will be missed deeply. My heart goes out to her family and fellow labmates, while her body has left us she imparted her vivacious spirit to all of us.
