Annette Roberta Plumley (née Maher)

Annette’s daughter Anita was my daughter’s friend at secondary school. Annette was one of a kind - fun, feisty and fiercely proud of her brilliant daughters. She will be dearly missed but I am sure her spirit and enormous zest for life will live on in Anita and Laura.

Annette was our neighbour opposite for many years and we saw her bring up her girls to the lovely adults they are today. They were her pride and joy..All three were friendly and clever, not least of them Annette.
She was a wonderful neighbour to have , unintrusive but always there when you needed her -helpful, kind and charmingly quirky. My wife Vivienne and I loved her and missed her when she left Northwood.

I first met Annette on my regular beach walk from Cooden to Bexhill a couple of years ago. So I can’t claim to have know her long or that deeply. But her warmth and generous nature were very easy to fall in with. She always encouraged me to come and join the cold water swimming group she belonged to. Sadly I had to let her down gently with the hard truth that I was and am a “ fair weather swimmer” we later re-connected when she introduced me to her lovely daughter Laura. I have missed Anette’s smiling positive energy on my walks over the last 6 months. But I will never forget her sitting in front of the coloured sheds in her cossie chatting away in the sunshine and the snow!! My deepest sympathies and Condolences to your family and close friends. It has been a pleasure and privilege to spend time with Annette over the last few years. I loved being at the beach and listening to her stories. She was so interesting and such fun. I am so sorry her wonderful daughters Laura and Anita have lost her far too soon. She is very much missed and will always be in my thoughts. X

I first met Annette when we were both in our 20s and working at Total Oil in Aberdeen. Annette was a Geophysicist and I was in the Drawing Office.
Total had great staff weekends away to various places and they were always great fun, from skiing in Aviemore to sunny weekends away.

We have always kept in touch and met up every few years. I will always remember her with a happy heart, she was always so jolly, caring and thoughtful - a really lovely human being.

I have very dear memories of Annette from the joy of growing up alongside Anita - from Annette watching us on poolside, to school events, and beyond; Annette was always there with her characteristic warmth and care, and love and support for Anita and Laura. I always enjoyed her snaps and lovely comments from “mumplum photography” and in this time of great sadness, think of you three in your outrageously fun Era’s tour trio outfit, which never fails to bring a smile to one’s face. 🎾

Annette’s mother, Eileen, and my mother, Margery, were best friends at school.
Later, Eileen became my godmother and her brother, Bill, was my godfather.
There has been a long association between our two families.
Annette was a most interesting and enthusiastic person with a great zest for life and many interests.
Her girls were at the very centre of her life and she was immensely proud of them both.
I am sad that she has left us at such a young age and that she had so little time with her girls and such a short time in her cottage by the sea.

I loved going round to Anita’s (in Moor Park or Bexhill) so I could hear chat with Annette. She always had the best advice and made me laugh. She will be missed

Although I don't have any photos to share, I have fond memories of Annette. We met
often, over many years, in Northwood to put the world to rights. She will be really missed xx

I have known Annette for nearly 20 years as we have daughters of a similar age who were at school together. She was a wonderful friend and somebody always willing to help. She had the most wonderful , irreverent sense of humour and when we met up for coffee or a walk I always went away feeling better about the world and life . It was a dream of hers to live by the sea and I have happy memories of visiting and walking with her along the beach where she shared stories of her new life of wild swimming and bell ringing. My abiding memory of her is her wonderful, infectious laugh, her zest for life, and her love for and pride in her daughters

It's going to be impossible to think of Annette in the Past Tense. She was so bubbly, friendly, happy, outgoing, optimistic & good fun to spend time with & had the best sense of humour, finding something amusing in practically every situation.
I first met her in 1989 when she joined Agip  & I became good friends with her immediately.  She was the first person I spoke to after I left my marriage.. sitting on the floor in my flat with no furniture apart from a beanbag & the phone plugged into the wall while she listened & suggested things to do next.

She must have been a brilliant person to have as a Mother. She always knew what to do in all kinds of situations and was full of good advice.

I couldn't believe it when she told me about her diagnosis, I felt they must be mistaken. She was so typically upbeat at first & then over time went quiet & wouldn't answer her phone and then I knew it was real.

I can't believe she's gone.  I miss her so much already, our texts, jokes & memories and I'll always think of her, especially on occasions such as her birthday, her Christmases spent in Spain where she'd send me a pic & in February when her beloved mother died, plus it was her birthday month so double-sadness for her. They were so close more like sisters.

I really hope she didn't suffer too much at the end and that Laura & Anita can go forward in life and make a success of things knowing how proud she was of them & how much she adored them. 💕

Here is Anette prepping for a spooky afternoon swim in August last year on a day so misty we could barely see the shore. She was one of very few who could make a dry robe look super elegant, whatever the weather.

I think of her cracking pebbles on the beach to show me the crystals inside, chatting about theatre, sharing curses about builders, planning exotic travel adventures. Inspired by her solo trip to South America, I took myself off to India this January, and intend more in the future.

I miss her dreadfully and am heartbroken for Anita and Laura who lost their mother much too soon. Love, Gemma xx

It was a privilege to get to know Annette through swimming over the years. She had a wicked sense of humour and a zest for travel, adventure, knowledge and life. Her spirit and energy will live on and she will be greatly missed 💙

I really enjoyed spending time with Annette. She was always full of life and loved spending time on the beach. We will miss her but she will always be in our thoughts xx
