Remembrance

Anne Marian Woods, born on December 14, 1947, in Ashland, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully in the evening of January 7, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love and strength. She will be lovingly remembered by her three daughters: Jeannie McGovern (John), Patricia Waters wife of Scott Novak, and Christina Poper (Mike). She was a proud grandmother to Matthew husband of Ariana, Connor, Samantha, Megan, Madison, Abigail, and Daniel and became a prouder great-grandmother to Harper daughter of Matthew and Ariana.

Anne was the cherished daughter of Francis J. and Jean T. Klitsch and the third of nine siblings. Anne is survived by her sisters Terri (late Evan) Wilfong, Elizabeth Klitsch, Patricia (late Robert) Poochigian, and Jeanne (Steve) DeMunzio. She was preceded in death by her brothers Robert, Harry, Francis, and her sister Ellen. Anne leaves behind nieces, nephews, and many cousins.

Anne spent much of her life in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, raising her daughters on Miriam Road. Her home on Miriam Road was where she journeyed most of her life's highs and lows, socially sat on a stool in the local pub called Breen's that she would often refer to as "around the corner", coached and umpired softball games, helped organize the street's best known block parties, visited the nuns at St. Martin of Tours convent, and had her regular haircut and coloring chatting with the gals at Renee Fusco's Hair Salon, but most of all, her home offered her and her girls a community of families, neighbors, and life long friends. She had a successful career as a computer programmer/system analyst. In the early 1990’s, she proudly purchased a vacation home in Port Orange, Florida providing a haven for her mother and family. Later, she relocated to Florida to enjoy her retirement years.

Anne was a woman of talents, enjoyments, interests, and passions. She enjoyed fishing, painting, ceramics, puzzles and games, playing the guitar, reading John Grisham books, dancing to the Jitterbug, and listening to music; her favorites were Barbra Streisand, Soft Rock, Swing/Big Band Music such as Glenn Miller and the Dorsey Brothers. If there was music playing, she would begin her dance moves with or without a dance floor. “We are family” and “I will survive” were among her favorite songs. It would be remiss not to include her passion for watching TV, her scheduled programs and shows, and being an enthusiastic Philadelphia Eagles Fan. Her catch phrases such as “what can I tell ya”, “oh well”, “such is life”, and “ta ta” still echo in her daughters’ ears.

Anne proudly served in the U.S. Army during her younger adult years. She was stationed in Fort Meade, MD, and for a time lived in Laurel, MD. While living in Florida, her vibrant personality shone through her involvement in various community organizations, including the Fraternal Order of Eagles Daytona Beach #4401, Elks Lodge Port Orange #2723, South Daytona American Legion #0361, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary #1590. Anne generously dedicated her time to supporting community events and causes.

Anne will be laid to rest privately. A Celebration of Life in honor of Anne will be held on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Beka’s Catering Waterfall Room, Plumbers Union, 2791 Southampton Road, Philadelphia PA 19154. Those who knew Anne are warmly invited to join her family in sharing fond memories of the no-nonsense woman whose strength and kindness touched many lives.

The Halifax Health Hospice of Port Orange and its volunteer community surrounded Anne’s final days with kindness, attentiveness, comfort, and peace. Thoughtful and meaningful gifts were presented such as a “Veteran’s Recognition Pinning Ceremony”, a “Prayer Shawl”, and other handcrafted remembrance gifts for the family. In memory of Anne, donations towards the Halifax Health Hospice of Port Orange would be welcomed.

May Anne’s memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.

I remember watching Ms Woods hosing down the neighborhood kids with her super soaker. She loved her neighbors and they loved her back. She will be missed.

I'll always remember one night at Breen's when she told me not to let others judge me, to stay true to what I believe and I'll be fine. Remember that conversation to this day!

She was always there for me when I was younger explaining to my mom (a brave thing to do), why I had no choice but to get into that fight/trouble. Thank you Cousin for saving me from her wrath.

Remembering the belly laugh we shared while I was telling you a joke. We belly laughed our hearts out even before the punch line. This moment was so special to me because your inner child approach towards the amusement was rare.
