Obituary
Anne Elizabeth Pinkerton, 83, of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at Phoenixville Hospital on Thursday, June 5, 2025, with family and friends by her side. Anne was born in Lower Merion Township on October 12, 1941, the daughter of William Woods Pinkerton, Jr. and Anne Elizabeth (Durham) Pinkerton. She graduated from Conestoga High School in 1959. She studied Psychology and English at Dickinson College and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and went on to receive her Masters and PhD in Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh. Anne worked as a Psychologist at the Vanguard School in Paoli, Pennsylvania for many years until her retirement. She was the loving and devoted mother of two daughters, Jennifer Gorman (William Gorman) of Winthrop, Massachusetts and Katharine Fago (Steven Balmes) of Key West, Florida. She was the cherished Granny to her grandchildren Teagan Lavin, Hannah Gorman, Ella Gorman, and Bailour Balmes. She is also survived by her sister Jane Euler (Ken Glathorn) of Paoli, Pennsylvania, her brother Richard Pinkerton of California, her beloved feline companions, Boots and Hoppy, a niece, Beth Shannon (Liam Shannon) of Downingtown, Pennsylvania, cousins, and many beloved friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her nephew, William Euler. Anne will be profoundly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
Missing our mom
On Thursday, June 5, my mother peacefully and quietly passed from this world. The pain of losing her is excruciating. My mom was intelligent, funny, irreverent at times, strong willed, often without a filter, a lifelong democrat, a prolific card writer and notoriously frugal. She loved classical music, reading, cats, coffee ice cream, leftovers, emojis, the beach, a good political debate, a glass of white wine, black licorice, humming, antiques, art, and forwarding political memes, jokes, and pictures of animals and castles. But I like to think that most of all she loved her family and friends and of course her two loyal and aggressively friendly feline companions, Boots and Hoppy. And she loved us all fiercely. She was our sounding board, copy writer and editor, advice giver, biggest cheerleader and best friend. As much as she loved being a mom and I know she was proud of Kate and me, she LOVED being Granny to Teagan, Hannah, Ella and Bailour (and her grand cats) and never missed a chance to share their latest accomplishments or pictures. With my mom’s health struggles over the years, I was appreciative of the time we had - from visits at Christmas, trips to the Boston Pops and Longwood Gardens to our many phone calls while I was in Boston rush hour traffic. Yet I was still shocked that it had to come to an end. I wasn’t ready, even if she was. But I guess I would never be ready to say goodbye to my mom. I am deeply appreciative of her friends and all those who cared for her over the years. I will never be able to thank you enough. My mom was fiercely independent but her friends made her life richer and were a great help to her especially in these later years. Mom, if you’re reading this even though you still don’t know how to Facebook, I love you so much and miss you even more. I know you would leave kind and supportive words and many emojis.
