Obituary

The earthly world lost a genuine human angel when Anne Marie Buscemi was taken from it on the very early morning of Friday, April 17, 2026. Anne Marie was just shy of 79 years old, and a true fighter in every sense of the word. She passed away at a hospital in Chicago IL, her only child Amy by her side.

Anne Marie was beautiful, inside and out. A soul like no other, a true example of the type of person the world needs more of. She was the definition of meek; kind, sweet, gentle, caring, calm, passive, peaceful and beyond patient. Graceful and intelligent, those who knew her best also knew of her witty side, which often provided warm smiles and unexpected deep-bellied laughter. It was impossible to meet Anne Marie and not immediately adore her.

Born to her parents Anna and Michael Carden in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY, Anne Marie was the youngest of four siblings. She spent most of her adult married life living on Long Island in Merrick, NY and served as a dedicated homemaker, very caring mother and lifelong caregiver to her mother, plus her mother-in-law, and husband in their latter years of life. In 2024 she relocated to Chicago, IL, where she could be closer to her daughter and receive the care she needed and deserved in her later stage of life. In her more youthful years, Anne Marie was a talented and passionate seamstress, sewing all her own clothing and creating clothing items for the people she loved as well. She was well known for loving various shades of the color turquoise, television shows of all eras and genres, oldies music, games and puzzles; diligently completing word search books from front to back even through her dementia years, and almost up until her dying day. She was an avid lover of animals, most specifically dogs and most of all, her soul-dog Princess, whom she is probably the most excited to be reunited with in the afterlife.

Waiting for her with open arms, she will also joyfully be reunited with Anthony (Tony), her husband of just over 50 years of whom she was the world to, her parents Anna and Michael, and her in-laws Catherine and Leonard, her once stillborn daughter of whom she never got to meet, her beloved sister Theresa, brother Vincent, Sister in-law Carmen, Brother in-law Joe, Aunt Ella and Uncle Jim, all of her lifetime pets, and the friends who were like family to her; Denise Volk, Rose Wisch and Kay Lodding.

Of her three siblings, Anne Marie is survived by only her eldest middle brother, Johnny, her only daughter Amy, three generations of nieces and nephews; many of whom considered her to be a second mom growing up, her best friend from childhood Maureen, and many other friends and neighbors from throughout her lifetime who loved her dearly.

Anne Marie fought ongoing battles with COPD, and more recently Alzheimer's Disease, which likely started to come on not long after her husband’s passing in 2020. Through it all she demonstrated strength, resilience and the will to live out her life independently. The medical system in the United States failed her, but at least she can now be at peace and does not have to suffer at the hands of such awful illnesses for another day.

Plans are in the works for a Celebration of Life Memorial event to take place on or around Long Island New York, in honor of both her and her late husband Tony, who passed away early on during the pandemic and went without a service as a result. ALL who knew and loved either or both of them will be welcome. Updates will be provided here in addition to individual outreach.

If you wish to honor Anne Marie’s memory, please do so by leaving a comment, and/or making a donation in her name with the associations that do research to help patients of her illnesses receive advanced care.
