The Best is Yet to Come!
Obituary
With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Dr. Angie (West) Brown, who was born on September 10, 1962, and entered eternal rest on April 19, 2026, in Liberty Township, Ohio.
Angie leaves behind her devoted husband of more than 40 years, Percy L. Brown, III, her college sweetheart and the love of her life. She is also survived by her children — Dr. Aleia Brown, Dr. Ana’ Brown, and William Brown (Curtricia Brown, daughter‑in‑love) — and her three treasured grandchildren, Asher, Kensington, and Kyndall, who were the lights of her world. Angie is also survived by her mother, Pastor Ann Davis, and her siblings, Cecil West and Annette West-Davis. She is preceded in death by her father, Cecil West, Sr.
Angie’s journey was shaped by a deep love of learning and a commitment to lifting others through education. She attended Central State University, where she met her beloved Percy. She later earned her Master’s Degree from Union Institute and University and Doctorate from Antioch University, achievements that reflected her belief in the power of knowledge and her favorite reminder: “Jesus + Education = Success.”
A woman of grace, service, and sisterhood, Angie was a proud and treasured member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, where she served faithfully as Chaplain for the Phi Psi Omega Chapter in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her leadership extended far beyond the sorority. Angie poured her gifts into the community with passion and purpose. She was a member of the Ohio Women’s Leadership Summit (2024), a key representative for the Cincinnati Juneteenth Festival in partnership with the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, and the Founder of Phenomenal Women of Focus, a group dedicated to empowering and uplifting women. Angie also served on numerous boards and committees, including the National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center, The Brighton Center, Kiki Magazine, Lakota Local School District, Dayton Public Schools, and many others. Wherever there was work to be done, Angie showed up; wholeheartedly, joyfully, and with a spirit that inspired everyone around her.
To know Angie was to feel warmth. Many described her as a beam of sunshine, someone who could brighten a room simply by entering it. She had a big, beautiful smile that often stopped people in their tracks and put them instantly at ease; her smile was an invitation all on its own. Angie had a gift for hospitality and found joy in cooking, gathering around the table, and creating moments that made others feel seen, welcomed, and loved. She believed deeply in the power of community and often reminded those around her to “bloom where planted.” And she did. In every season, in every place, and with every person she touched, Angie bloomed. She had a natural way of rallying people, encouraging, inspiring, and inviting them to share in life’s blessings.
Angie adored her grandchildren and cherished every moment spent with them. She loved flowers, a good cup of tea, and “making things beautiful,” whether in her home, her relationships, or the spaces she tended with care.
Angie’s life was defined by love, generosity, faith, and the countless warm memories she created for her family, friends, and community. Her legacy will continue to blossom in the lives she touched and in the beauty she brought into the world.

Dr. Brown’s work reminded us that freedom is not only a chapter in history, but a daily practice—built through moral courage, disciplined learning, and the willingness to stand with others. She carried herself with a steady strength that invited trust, and she met people where they were while still calling them toward what is possible.
Those who knew Dr. Brown often speak of how she listened—patiently, attentively, and without pretense. She encouraged others to lead with integrity, to ask better questions, and to do the hard work of building community. Her legacy lives in the people she mentored, the conversations she advanced, and the standards of excellence she modeled.
May we honor Dr. Angie Brown by carrying forward the values she embodied: truth, compassion, and unwavering commitment to freedom. With profound respect, we extend our condolences and our gratitude.

Angie was an extraordinary woman whose warmth reached everyone she met. Her smile was bright and genuine, and her presence brought a sense of comfort that made people feel instantly at ease. Angie had a special way of drawing people together—creating connections, nurturing relationships, and building a true sense of community wherever she went. I personally witnessed her do this in all types of spaces, with all types of people. It didn’t matter who you were or where you met her. To know Angie was to love her.
As a mother and grandmother, she shared a love that will continue to live on through your family. As a friend, she meant so much to so many, and her kindness left a lasting mark on all of us. I feel grateful to have known her.
She will be deeply missed by me and by the many lives she touched and brought together. Percy, Aleia, Ana, Will & Curtricia- please know you are in my thoughts and in my heart during this difficult time.
And, to my beautiful friend, your work here is done. May you rest in peace. 🩷
