Obituary

Angela Irene Engbrecht passed away November 18th, 2025. She was born in Maple Valley, Washington on March 27th, 1984. Her childhood included rebuilding hot rods, many animals, and exploring the nearby woods. Her teenage years, rebellious and goth, she found a love for music and subculture as only a punk in a small town could.

In her late teens she moved to Seattle Washington, her true home. She found and became a main stay in the Seattle punk community. She loved the music dearly, but truly resonated with the DIY mutual aid built into this “institution” of Seattle. Helping others was in her bones. She also discovered her life long pursuit, Behavior Analysis. Angela was so so good at this and almost weaponized it for the greater good. She would always find the leading professionals and receive their accolades.

Her innate ability in this field led her to Hong Kong, her second home. She loved Hong Kong, the tradition meets sophistication and their battle for autonomy reverberated with her. After 5 years enjoying everything Hong Kong could offer, Angela came back to Seattle. These years held many of life’s crucial landmarks. She made and enjoyed art, strengthened the bonds around her, explored her love for nature and her favorite hobby, Biking!

After many years in behavioral analysis she was accepted in the Doctorate Program at the University of Nevada Reno. Reno was a big change for Angela, but she found her community and brightened the lives of everyone she came into contact with. She squeezed everything out of every moment. She truly embodied the fiery disposition of her Zodiac sun sign the Aries. Nothing was easy, but everything worth it many times over.

In her memory you can love everyone around you with your whole heart, go on a bike ride we would categorize as too long, eat a million tiny morsels of delicious food, have a last word (the cocktail), have the last word (in an argument), rescue an animal, take a poll on what to do with your hair, and do something kind for a stranger who’s having a hard time.

She’s survived by two rescue dogs with fantastic lives, two majestic doofus cats, her mother, Bonnie Engbrecht, sister Olivea, brother David, and nephews Nikolaus and Alex, as well as numerous friends who she considered family, and a sweet unbelievable resilient fiancé Abraão.

I am sorry to not be in town for the memorial, as I know it will be filled with lovely people who Angela was able to collect time with over her life. I have been remembering her since her death as fierce and uncompromising in her values, willing to sacrifice her own comfort if it could benefit another.

When I met my husband, it wasn’t long after meeting my friends several times that he commented how she always seemed to go out of her way to find him and chat and how it made him feel welcome when he didn’t know many others. I appreciate that quality in her that wasn’t afraid to seek out people on the margins of any given situation and prioritize their inclusion.

In my time here on this rock it seems to me that those who have known suffering themselves have a depth in their compassion toward the suffering of others. That was my experience with Angela. I hope she has found peace.
